SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco 49ers center Jeremy Newberry is out of jail after being arrested on suspicion of hitting a woman in a fight on a boat.
Newberry, 26, and his sister Jennifer, 27, were both arrested Friday and charged with battery.
The 23-year-old woman from San Diego told Napa County deputies she was hit several times on the face during the fight on Lake Berryessa, about 70 miles northeast of San Francisco. Deputies said she suffered injuries to her face, back and arms.
A representative from the 49ers could not be immediately reached for comment Saturday afternoon.
Newberry is the second 49er to be arrested in the past week. Kick return specialist Vinny Sutherland was arrested last Saturday on felony charges he was drunk when he drove his car into two light posts in Saratoga, several miles west of San Jose.
Two 49ers' draft picks, safety Kevin Curtis and defensive tackle Josh Shaw, were riding in the vehicle with Sutherland. No one was seriously hurt and neither Curtis, a fourth-round choice from Texas Tech, nor Shaw, a fifth-round choice from Michigan State, was arrested. | ||
