Free agent Cris Carter was so confident that he was going to sign a deal with the Cleveland Browns that he canceled a planned trip to the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday. Now it looks possible that Carter may not join either team next season.
Negotiations between the future Hall of Fame receiver and the Browns hit a snag on Wednesday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported. After those negotiations stalled, Carter called the Rams in an attempt to ask if he could come visit St. Louis after all. The Rams said no. Sources told Mortensen that the Rams are no longer interested in signing Carter, who is continuing to negotiate with the Browns. The 36-year-old Carter has 1,093 receptions in a stellar 15-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings. However, Carter's 68 catches with the Vikings last year was the lowest total of his career since 1992. | ||||||
