SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers' only wide receiver to
score a touchdown this season continues to hobble around with a
sore hamstring and remains questionable for Sunday's matchup
against one of the NFL's top receiving crews.
While the St. Louis Rams' offense is riding high, the Chargers
are ranked No. 30. The Chargers have scored only three offensive
touchdowns so far this season.
Curtis Conway, who was hurt in Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Seattle
Seahawks, ran lightly in Thursday's practice. He wasn't able to
participate in team drills and instead retired to the sidelines
with a bag of ice wrapped around his left leg.
"It affects preparation for him and what we want to do with him
in the ballgame," said Chargers coach Mike Riley. "We will have
to see where he is. We are back with that hamstring deal and
hamstrings are tough to tell about."
Conway is listed as probable on the injury report, but ask Riley
about his speedy receiver's status, and he says questionable.
Conway has had trouble with his hamstring since training camp.
He didn't play in the preseason and had his camp practice time
derailed by the injury.
He played in the first four Chargers games but hasn't had the
impact envisioned for $14 million free agent. He has 14 receptions
for 144 yards and one touchdown.
"We're going to have to see how he is (today)," Riley said.
"Then play it by ear for the game. Right now, that's the best
thing we can do."
If Conway is benched, Reggie Jones could end up playing in his
first start of the season.
Meantime, Jeff Graham, who is recovering from hamstring and back
injuries, will return to the starting lineup.
Graham, who was the Chargers' offensive MVP last year, hasn't
started the last two weeks, although he had limited action against
Seattle.
"He's practiced both days this week and that is encouraging,"
Riley said. "He looks much improved. I don't know if he is 100
percent yet, but that's good news for us."
