Dillon ready to say bye to Bengals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Corey Dillon joined Carl Pickens as the latest member of the Cincinnati Bengals to leave no question about his feelings toward the franchise.

"I'm out, I'm done, I'm through," Dillon said after sitting out Cincinnati's 24-7 loss to Jacksonville on Sunday with a knee injury.

"I just want to go somewhere else and get my career going in the right direction," the Pro Bowl running back said. "I've come in here, I've done my time, I've been a decent citizen. I came out and played hard. I don't care what it is, I just don't want to be here."

Last week, Pickens said he was upset the Bengals had chosen to retain coach Bruce Coslet for another year.

After being designated the team's franchise player when his contract expired last year after seven seasons, Pickens skipped training camp, saying he would never play for the Bengals again.

He relented three days before the opener, and the Bengals rewarded him with a five-year deal worth $23.25 million.

He was nearly invisible Sunday, catching three passes for 31 yards.

"I've made no bones about it, it was a distraction," Coslet said of Pickens' latest rant. "There is no other way to really put it because guys are talking about it or they're being asked about it."

Coslet also acknowledged that quarterback Jeff Blake had likely played his last game with the Bengals.

Blake and Coslet got along, but this is the final year of Blake's contract, and with the arrival of Akili Smith, it seems obvious Blake won't return.

"I'm assuming it was my last game with Jeff and we treated it as such," Coslet said. "We gave everything we had this week. I don't expect him to be back, I'll be frank with you."

Dillon, who becomes a restricted free agent after this season, rushed for 1,200 yards this year. He sustained a knee injury last week that prevented him a chance from breaking James Brooks' team record of 1,243 yards.

He said he heard grumblings from the organization about his inability to play in the meaningless season finale.

"I've been going through little stuff like this all year, little stuff said behind my back, people mumbling things under their breath," Dillon said. "I'm just sick of it. I just don't feel respected around here."
