Favre would continue to start at quarterback despite the problems he was having with the thumb of his passing hand, Green Bay coach Ray Rhodes said Wednesday. The Packers face the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Favre was just 14-for-35 and Monday night during a 27-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. After the game, Rhodes hinted that he would have to consider resting Favre until the injured thumb got better.

However, Rhodes said Wednesday that Favre and the Packers medical staff believe the quarterback can play effectively with the injury, which has bothered him since the preseason.

Late in the first quarter of Green Bay's game with Seattle, Favre ducked a pass rusher and prepared to scramble downfield. As he reached the line of scrimmage, he pump faked, hoping the defenders would back off to give him more running room.

But the ball slipped from his hand and Chad Brown fell on it at the Green Bay 49.

That summed up Favre's evening. The three-time MVP fumbled twice and was intercepted four times.

"We couldn't beat anyone the way we played tonight," Favre said. "The mistakes we made, turning the ball over. We didn't capitalize on the chances we had. It's as simple as that."
