KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two members of the Kansas City Chiefs were arrested in separate incidents Friday night and early Saturday, police said.

Andre Rison
Andre Rison has only seven catches in six games this season.
Wide receiver Andre Rison was one of six people arrested early Saturday in connection with a fight outside a Kansas City nightspot, said Sgt. Floyd Mitchell, a Kansas City police spokesman.

Just hours earlier, reserve tight end Lonnie Johnson was arrested for assault involving a female police officer posing as a prostitute.

Both players, who were released on bail, were inactive for Sunday's 34-0 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

"The Kansas City Chiefs consider such behavior to constitute conduct unbecoming a player and not in keeping with team policies," team president Carl Peterson said.

In Rison's case, Mitchell said officers were called about 2 a.m. Saturday to a disturbance at the Have A Nice Day Cafe in the city's Westport entertainment district. Security guards detained several people before police made the arrests.

Mitchell said the six were taken to police headquarters and booked for disorderly conduct by fighting in public. No further details about the fight were released.

Johnson was arrested just after 8 p.m. Friday in an area where undercover officers were operating a prostitution sting. Johnson stopped his car near an officer posed as a prostitute, who approached Johnson and started talking with him.

Mitchell said Johnson reached over, allegedly grabbed the officer and was arrested for assault.

Rison, 32, signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in 1997, after being released by the Green Bay Packers. He played earlier for Jacksonville, Cleveland, Atlanta and Indianapolis.

Rison, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, has not been a factor for the Chiefs this season, with only seven catches for 75 yards and no touchdowns. He caught 112 passes in his first season with the team.

He was hampered with a hamstring injury last season, but started 13 games and had 40 catches.

Before Rison signed with the Chiefs, he had played for four teams in two seasons and was labeled by some as a clubhouse problem.

Rison, who has an unlisted telephone number, could not be immediately reached for comment about his arrest.

In April 1997, Rison was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in Lawrenceville, Ga., after refusing to get out of his car after a traffic stop. He was released after paying a fine.

In 1994, Rison, then of the Atlanta Falcons, and Deion Sanders, then a member of the San Francisco 49ers, were fined $7,500 each by the NFL for their fight in which they traded slaps and punches in the middle of the field during a game.

Johnson, 28, signed a two-year contract with the Chiefs in March after playing five seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He caught at least 40 passes every season from 1995 through 1997, but his production and playing time dropped last year, when he had just 14 catches.

With the Chiefs, Johnson has played sparingly as a backup for Tony Gonzalez, catching four passes for 47 yards and no touchdowns.
