INDIANAPOLIS -- The agent for quarterback Elvis Grbac said here Friday that his client has abandoned plans to return to the NFL in 2003 and instead will remain retired. "No, he's not coming back, that's it," said agent Jim Steiner. "He's changed his mind on that. It won't happen." Grbac, 32, left the league last spring after being released by the Baltimore Ravens for salary cap reasons. He had at least one solid contract offer, from the Cincinnati Bengals, but considered it an inferior deal and chose to retire. Several weeks ago, Grbac hinted that he might return, and he had Steiner contact some teams, most notably the Denver Broncos. It is not known how much interest Grbac would have generated had he followed through on his plans to end his one-year NFL hiatus. In eight seasons, Grbac appeared in 106 games and started 69 of them in stints in San Francisco (1994-96), Kansas City (1997-2000) and Baltimore (2001). He started 13 games for the Ravens in '01, threw 15 touchdown passes and 18 interceptions. He was released when the Ravens declined to pay him a $6 million roster bonus last spring. For his career, Grbac completed 1,446 of 2,445 passes for 16,774 yards, with 99 touchdown passes, 81 interceptions and a passer rating of 79.6. Steiner opined that Grbac is likely to stay retired for good now. "Yeah, he's gone back and forth on it, and you never know," he said. "But I really think that this time it's final."
