Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch, the former University of Nebraska quarterback who will play wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams, is officially in the NFL now. ESPN.com has confirmed that Crouch, selected in the third round of the draft, on Friday reached agreement on a three-year, $1.3 million contract. The contract includes a signing bonus of $350,000 and Crouch will receive the minimum base salaries of $225,000 (for 2002), $300,000 (2003) and $380,000 (2004). His salary cap figure for 2002 is $356,667. The 95th player chosen overall, he becomes the sixth of the Rams' eight draft choices to agree to contract terms. Despite a record-setting career in which Crouch averaged 188.5 all-purpose yards in 42 games, he will have to learn a new position to earn an NFL roster spot, and is battling for a job on a very deep Rams wide receiver corps. Crouch, 23, won virtually every major award available to college quarterbacks in 2001 and capped off his career with the Heisman honor. He earned all-conference honors in each of his last three seasons and All-American citation as a junior and senior. He is one of only three players in NCAA Division I history to pass for over 4,000 yards and rush for over 3,000 yards in a career. Crouch is one of only 13 players to pass for 1,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season. In four seasons, he completed 312 of 606 passes for 4,481 yards, with 29 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. Crouch carried 648 times for 3,434 yards and 59 touchdowns. He had solid workouts this spring catching the ball and was clocked at 4.47 in the 40-yard dash. Len Pasquarelli is a senior writer for ESPN.com. |
