The 49ers released two veteran players Monday -- wide receiver J.J. Stokes and defensive end Junior Bryant -- to clear up cap room.
Stokes is hoping to hear from the Jaguars, Lions and Jets now that he has been released. The 49ers save $2.25 million of cap room with his release. They will take a $2,272,383 cap hit next season. Bryant, 31, has missed the past couple of seasons because of back problems. The cap savings aren't big because he reduced his salary to the NFL minimum of $655,000. The 49ers will take a $2,305,075 cap hit next year. With the extra cap room created this year, the 49ers signed guard DeMingo Graham of the Houston Texans. Graham still has two games to serve on a suspension from last year for violations of the substance policy involving supplements. John Clayton is a senior writer for ESPN.com. |
