Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt announced Friday that Ray Lucas will start at quarterback Sunday night against the Jets. Lucas isn't 100 percent because of a right shoulder injury, but he took at least half the snaps in each of the past three practices. Sage Rosenfels will be the backup. Receiver Cris Carter was added to the injury list as probable because of a stomach virus. Carter has missed most of the past two practices. His missed practices may not knock him out of the starting lineup, but if he is still sick Sunday, James McKnight might start. Mark Dixon returns to his left tackle job now that his ankle injury has healed. Wannstedt isn't sure if backup safety Trent Gamble will play because of a groin injury.

Four injured Patriots practiced Friday to a limited or extensive extent and should be available for Sunday's game against the Bears. The Patriots listed four players as questionable -- safety Victor Green (leg), linebacker Larry Izzo (leg), cornerback Ben Kelly (ankle) and linebacker Mike Vrabel (arm). Of the group, Kelly was the only player not to practice on Thursday. The rest have had two days of practice to get ready for the Bears.

The Jets have no big injury concerns going into Sunday night's game against the Dolphins. The only player on the injury report is backup linebacker Khary Campbell with a foot injury. Every starter will be able to go for this critical AFC East game.

The Ravens officially scratched middle linebacker Ray Lewis (shoulder), quarterback Chris Redman (back) and defensive end Michael McCrary (knee). Lewis is telling teammates that he is now targeting next week's game against the Dolphins in Miami to make his return. Lewis is feeling better as he tries to recover from a partially separated shoulder. He lifted instead of practicing Friday. The Ravens upgraded cornerback Chris McAlister (ankle) from doubtful to questionable, but coach Brian Billick said after Friday's practice that he doesn't expect McAlister to play. Alvin Porter gets the start Sunday against the Bengals. Backup tight end John Jones (knee) didn't practice and is questionable.
The Bengals downgraded defensive end Vaughn Booker from questionable to out because of his knee problems and there are still rumblings that he may retire before the end of the season. The Bengals added safety Mark Roman to the injury list after he sat out Friday's practice with a sore right knee. The only uncertainty is whether Jeff Burris will return to his starting cornerback job after missing the past couple of games with a hamstring injury. Burris practiced all week and appears to be ready, but coach Dick LeBeau will wait until kickoff Sunday against the Ravens to determine if he is going to play.
Steelers halfback Jerome Bettis, who practiced a little bit on Wednesday and Thursday, couldn't practice on Friday because of his sore knee. He needed an ice bag on the knee. Bettis, who wasn't expected to start, may have to sit out for his third game. Amos Zereoue gets his third start in Bettis' absence. After missing two starts, Jeff Hartings returns to his role as the team's starting center. Backup safety Mike Logan was on the field Friday for a little work, but he remains questionable with a hamstring injury. The Steelers host the Falcons.

Texans coach Dom Capers won't know until game time Sunday against the Titans if he has to make a second change on the offensive line. He lost guard Ryan Schau for the season and replaced him with rookie Fred Weary. Right tackle Ryan Young won't know until pre-game whether he could play on his injured groin. He could be replaced by Jimmy Herndon if he can't go. The team lists Young as probable, but Young has been limited in practice all week. The Texans won't have rookie safety Ramon Walker, who is out with an ankle injury.
The Colts will start undrafted rookie James Mungro because they won't have halfbacks Edgerrin James (hamstring) and Ricky Williams (hamstring). They should have Adam Meadows back at right tackle. He returned to practice Thursday after missing two games because of a hip injury. The defensive line continues to undergo change because of injuries, but there is some thought that rookie defensive end Dwight Freeney could get his first start. Rookie end Raheem Brock is out with an ankle. Defensive tackle Josh Williams is out with foot and arm injuries. Brad Scioli, an end, will start at defensive tackle. Larry Tripplett should be able to play at defensive tackle after missing time because of knee and elbow injuries. The Colts added cornerback Walt Harris to the injury report as questionable with a knee injury, but he practiced Friday and should be able to play. The Colts visit the Eagles on Sunday.
Jaguars halfback Fred Taylor bounced back from a back injury that sidelined him Wednesday. Taylor has practiced the past two days. The Jaguars will be without wide receiver Pat Johnson, who is out with an abdomen injury. Bobby Shaw starts in his play and newly signed Kevin Lockett will be the third receiver against his old teammates, the Redskins. Todd Fordham takes over at right tackle for Zach Wiegert, who went on injured reserve with a knee injury. The Jaguars had six players on the injury report as probable. That group practiced Friday and will play Sunday. On Friday, the Jags added two defensive players as probables because of time missed in practice. The two are Donovin Darius (hip) and Eric Westmoreland (toe). The Jaguars play the Redskins on Sunday.
Titans quarterback Steve McNair didn't test his sore toe Friday, but McNair and coach Jeff Fisher remain optimistic that McNair will start Sunday against the Texans. McNair has often missed all of the practices and started. Defensive end Jevon Kearse didn't practice with the team against Friday and looks as though he may have to wait until next week to make his return. Kearse only did some running on the side coming back from his broken foot. Fisher wanted to make sure he saw Kearse line up during practice and make some plays before giving him the go-ahead to play. Fullback Robert Holcombe practiced on his sore hip but he may be another week away from returning. Middle linebacker Randall Godfrey had his bad ankle in a boot and didn't practice. Rookie Rocky Calmus starts at middle linebacker. The safety position may have both Tank Williams (shoulder) and Lance Schulters (shoulder). Both practiced on Friday. Even fullback Greg Comella (shoulder) was on the practice field. |

The Broncos are pretty much injury-free. Coming off a bye week, the only Bronco on the injury report for Monday night's game against the Raiders is backup defensive tackle Monsanto Pope, who is probable with an ankle injury. During the bye week, coach Mike Shanahan revamped the special teams by bringing in a new punter, changing holders and changing snappers. They even replaced Jason Elam on kickoffs.
The Chiefs' clean injury report had only one addition Friday. Tackle Willie Jones is out for the game with a neck stringer. The rest of the team is healthy.
The Raiders held cornerback Charles Woodson out of practice Friday because of his hamstring injury. He is questionable for the Monday night game against the Broncos. Defensive end Tony Bryant is getting a third opinion on his spine injury suffered last Sunday against the 49ers. He is out for the game. DeLawrence Grant and Trace Armstrong will start. Free safety Rod Woodson has been held out of a couple of practices to rest a sore knee, but he's expected to play. The Raiders won't know until game time whether left tackle Barry Sims will be able to play on his sprained foot. |
Chargers left tackle Damion McIntosh hasn't practiced all week because of an ankle injury. Coach Marty Schottenheimer is deciding between Ed Ellis or Sammy Williams as his replacement. Backup tight end Josh Norman is expected to miss because of a calf injury. Defensive tackle Jason Fisk (ankle) and safety Keith Lyle (ankle) practiced and should be able to play. They have been listed as questionable. |

The Giants had tight end Jeremy Shockey back on the practice field Friday and his name doesn't even appear on the injury report. Shockey left Thursday's practice early because of pain from his bad turf toe injury. He will play Sunday against the Vikings. Even though middle linebacker Mike Barrow didn't practice Friday, coach Jim Fassel expects him to play Sunday. Barrow has a hamstring injury. If he can't play, Kevin Lewis would get the start. Out for the game are linebacker Nick Greisen (foot) and center Dusty Zeigler (knee). Halfback Tiki Barber (leg) and defensive end Kenny Holmes (knee) are fine and will start Sunday against the Vikings.
The Eagles scratched outside linebacker Carlos Emmons again because of his hamstring injury. He had been listed as doubtful. Joining him on the sidelines is defensive end Derrick Burgess. The rest of the injury list is in good shape. Seven players who have been listed as probable practiced on Friday. That means that wide receiver Antonio Freeman, who was in question early in the week because of a hip injury, will be available as the third receiver. Defensive end Hugh Douglas is OK after missing a day because of a knee injury.
Redskins halfback Stephen Davis will miss his second consecutive game because of his knee injury, giving Kenny Watson his second start of the season. The Redskins' run offense will also be without right guard Brenden Stai, who has a knee injury that has sidelined him more than a month. Backup defensive end Carl Powell is also out of the Jacksonville game because of a groin injury. Coach Steve Spurrier has not moved Tré Johnson into the starting lineup, but he is playing so well that he should continue to get more playing time each week. The Redskins will start Rod Gardner and Derrius Thompson at wide receiver. Shane Matthews starts at quarterback with rookie Patrick Ramsey as the backup.

Swelling in Jim Miller's right elbow forced a quarterback change in Chicago. Coach Dick Jauron officially announced Friday that Miller will only be available for backup duty against the Patriots on Sunday and that Chris Chandler will start. Miller has been bothered for weeks by tendinitis in both shoulders and a sore elbow. The situation worsened for the elbow Thursday night, prompting the change. Chandler got good news that right guard Chris Villarrial will return after missing the past two games with a back injury. There will be game-day decisions for three players to be available for backup duty. Tight end Fred Baxter (ankle), offensive tackle Bernard Robertson (ankle) and fullback Daimon Shelton (ankle) were limited in practice Friday and remain questionable. Jauron will decide in the pre-game Sunday whether to put them on the active roster. The Bears won't have wide receiver David Terrell (foot) and defensive tackle Ted Washington (ankle). |
The Lions have serious concerns at the safety position and won't know until Sunday's game against the Packers who will be on the field. That's probably good news for Packers quarterback Brett Favre, who will be trying to test the middle of the field for big plays. Strong safety Corey Harris was on the field for some work Friday, but he had been listed as doubtful because of a knee injury. The team upgraded him to questionable Friday. Free safeties Brian Walker (toe) and Lamar Campbell (hamstring) couldn't do much Friday and remain very questionable. It's not out of the question for the Lions to use cornerback Eric Davis at free safety. There is a concern at left guard because Tony Semple hasn't practiced this week because of a neck injury. He could be replaced by Matt Joyce. The Lions won't have wide receiver Larry Foster (shoulder) and linebacker Clint Kriewaldt (foot). There is some hope that Desmond Howard could handle returns. He's been bothered by rib problems. The Lions visit the Packers on Sunday.
With defensive end Vonnie Holliday out following knee surgery, the Packers won't know until Sunday whether Cletidus Hunt will be able to play. Hunt has been limited because of a knee injury suffered Monday against the Dolphins. The rest of the injury list is in good shape. Four probables, including center Frank Winters (rib) and Steve Warren (knee), practiced Friday and should be able to play Sunday vs. the Lions.
The Vikings activated left tackle Bryant McKinnie from a two-week roster exemption and released offensive lineman Jon Carman. McKinnie is expected to get significant playing time Sunday against the Giants. If McKinnie doesn't start, he will surely be on the field by the second series. He may play more than 25 snaps. Everett Lindsay is expected to start at left tackle because Lewis Kelly is bothered by an ankle injury. The Vikings added defensive tackle Chris Hovan to the list as questionable because of back spasm that started bothering him Thursday. Hovan is very iffy at this stage. Defensive end Kenny Mixon was added Friday as probable with a knee injury, but he should play. Linebacker Henri Crockett was added as probable with a knee but he will start. Free safety Ronnie Bradford is still groggy from a concussion, but he is expected to start. Out is wide receiver Derrick Alexander, who needs season-ending knee surgery. Cory Withrow starts at left guard for Corbin Lacina, who has a medial collateral knee sprain. |

The Falcons won't have their most powerful running back for Sunday's game against the Steelers. T.J. Duckett missed his third consecutive day of practice and will be scratched, leaving the hot Warrick Dunn as the featured back for the third consecutive game. Duckett, who has been bothered by plantar fascia of the right foot, injured his left foot during last week's victory over the Ravens. The Falcons will also be without wide receiver Darrin Chiaverini (quad) and guard Roberto Garza (foot). The rest of the injury list is in good shape. Defensive end Brady Smith returns to his starting job after missing a game with a shoulder injury. Cornerback Juran Bolden, who has a partially dislocated left knee cap, may be available for backup duty. He practiced all week. Safety Keion Carpenter practiced after missing a day earlier this week with a knee injury. |
Rodney Peete has battled back from knee surgery and a flu to return to his role as the starting quarterback of the Panthers for Sunday's game against the Saints. Quarterback Chris Weinke, who's had a bad concussion, will be the backup. The other concerns for coach John Fox is at linebacker. Dan Morgan (hernia) will be replaced at middle linebacker by rookie Will Witherspoon. Shane Burton goes into the defensive tackle spot vacated by Brentson Buckner, who was suspended for violations of the league's substance policy. Backup linebacker Lester Towns is out with a foot injury that may eventually place him on the injured reserve list.
The Saints plan to activate cornerback Dale Carter Friday from a two-week roster exemption and it appears likely that he will start against the Panthers on Sunday. Carter missed eight games with a suspension for violations of the substance abuse policy. The Saints technically have only 52 players on their roster after guard Wally Williams was suspended for four games because of the league's substance policy. Defensive tackle Grady Jackson will miss the game because of a hamstring pull. He will be replaced by Martin Chase. The defensive end unit welcomes the return of defensive end Willie Whitehead, who is back after recovering from a broken leg. Coach Jim Haslett's biggest question is at outside linebacker. Darrin Smith hasn't practiced much this week because of a leg injury. If Smith can't play, Haslett will start Roger Knight.

The Cardinals offense is a mess. Quarterback Jake Plummer missed his second consecutive day of practice because of soreness in his right shoulder. Coach Dave McGinnis expects Plummer to be able to play Sunday against the Seahawks, but he won't be sure until game time. Rookie Josh McCown took all of the snaps for the past two days. The Cardinals list Plummer as probable. The offense will be without wide receiver David Boston, who is getting a second opinion on what is expected to be season-ending knee surgery. Boston is expected to be the third Cardinal receiver to go on injured reserve, joining Bryan Gilmore and MarTay Jenkins. The Cardinals will start Frank Sanders and Jason McAddley. Jake Soliday and Arnold Jackson will be the backup receivers. The offensive line will be without center Mike Gruttadauria, who can barely walk around on a bad knee. He will be replaced by Jason Starkey. Also out on the offensive line will be backup tackle John Fina. Anthony Clement may get his first work of the season as a backup. He's tore a muscle before the start of the regular season. Defensive end Thomas Burke is expected to miss because of a leg injury. Cornerback Duane Starks missed Friday's practice because of a groin injury, but the Cardinals hope that he plays.
The 49ers downgraded tight end Eric Johnson from questionable to doubtful because of his back problem, meaning that Justin Swift will get another start. The 49ers host the Chiefs. The 49ers will be without safety Zack Bronson (foot), linebacker Jamie Winborn (knee) and linebacker Saleem Rasheed (foot). Center Jeremy Newberry practiced for the first time this week on his bad toe injury. All of the other injured players practiced and will play Sunday.
Rookie tight end Jerramy Stevens returned to the practice field on Friday and should be able to play against the Cardinals. Stevens suffered a high ankle sprain on Sept. 29 and has not been able to play since. Stevens will probably return as a backup. Free safety Marcus Robertson needs one more test to be cleared to play Sunday following the concussion he suffered last week. Coach Mike Holmgren is optimistic that Robertson will play. Holmgren's thin linebacking corps should have Tim Terry available. Terry, who replaces outside linebacker Chad Brown, has been questionable all week because of a concussion. The Seahawks will be without guard Steve Hutchinson (broken leg), Darrell Jackson (concussion) and Anthony Simmons (high ankle sprain). |
Rams quarterback Kurt Warner continues to throw short passes with hope of returning by next Monday's game against the Chicago Bears. Pins have been surgically removed from his broken right pinky. The Rams may know by late in the week whether he could play. The Rams added left tackle Orlando Pace to the list with a groin injury, but he is expected to play Sunday. Pace practiced Friday. Linebacker Courtland Bullard (foot) and fullback Chris Heatherington (foot) are expected to miss Sunday's game against the Chargers.
