This was an evenly matched game. The Eagles showed their youth by making some critical mistakes (two fumbles, two interceptions). With the Redskins' talent, you might expect them to not have to go down to
the wire for the win. |

| Eddie George, who rushed for 181 yards and scored the go-head touchdown in the second half that gave the Titans a 17-14 lead -- an edge they wouldn't relinquish. |
Yes, it was the Bengals. But the Titans defense kept the fiesty Cincinnati winless by holding its offense to just one first down in the second half until the last minute of the fourth. |
The Titans look like they're emerging as the team to
beat in the AFC with a solid offense and a quick, opportunistic defense. The Bengals are playing harder though, and it won't be too much longer before they get some wins.

Steelers' QB Kordell Stewart. Controversy after controversy, Stewart still produced vs. the Jets -- he was 17-of-26 for 140 yards and made 10 of 18 third-down plays. |
For the second straight game, Kordell Stewart started at quarterback for Pittsburgh because of Kent Graham's injury. Stewart succeeded because he was efficient and poised and played error-free football.

The Saints defense, which dominated the entire game. Led by Fred Weary's eight tackles, the defense sacked Cade McNown five times, and totaled three interceptions. |
The Saints have been waiting for quarterback Jeff Blake to become a consistent peformer, and this game may have been the start. Another key to the game was the Saints' controlling time of possession.

The Lions defense, which helped Detroit take a 31-9 lead at one point. The Lions forced three interceptions and two fumbles. |
This win puts the Lions back in the picture in the NFC Central. Lions QB Charlie Batch continues to improve each week, and their running game appears to be making some strides. |

| Sam Madison returned a fumble for 20 yards with 4:45 left to give the Dolphins the lead for good. |
Thurman Thomas' trash talking must have really sparked the Dolphins defense, which was a force Sunday. Trace Armstrong's 3½ sacks and forced two fumbles, while Madison's interception sealed the Bills' fate. |
The elements for this potent Dolphins' D were there last year, but now the players are more experienced. They also have responded very well to some subtle changes Miami has made defensively.

The passing trio of Johnson, Michael Bishop, and oh yeah -- starter Drew Bledsoe. Along with Johnson, Bishop's 44-yard TD pass tied it and Bledsoe added two TD passes. |
This was a game, statistically, the Colts could have won. But you have to give credit to the Patriots -- and Drew Bledsoe, for coming up clutch down the stretch, including two TDs in the fourth quarter.

The Giants' defense was absolutely stifling today. They took the run away from the Falcons, forced them to throw the football, and then proceeded to knock Falcons QB Chris Chandler out of the game.

The Browns jumped out to a big lead in this game, but Jake Plummer -- who has struggled this season -- came through with a big performance to bring the Cardinals back. |

Panthers offense, which looked rejuvenated under new coordinator Richard Williamson. Steve Beuerlein went 27-for-39 for 332 yards and kicker Joe Nedney converted on four field-goal attempts. |
People have been waiting for the Panthers to get their offense in gear -- and today was the day. One telling stat in this game is that the Seahawks were 0-for-11 on third-down conversions. You can't win too many games doing that.
