KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Tony Gonzalez won't lie. Of course he's thinking about starting for the AFC in the Pro Bowl.

"If I said that wasn't a dream of mine, I'd be telling you a real whopper," said Kansas City's hard-working tight end, who caught six passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-19 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday that gave the Chiefs the lead in the AFC West.

Tony Gonzalez and Lance Brown
Kansas City's Tony Gonzalez beats Pittsburgh's Lance Brown for one of his two TDs Saturday.
It was the second game in a row Gonzalez has caught two TD passes for the Chiefs (9-5), who won their fourth a row and moved a half-game ahead of Seattle. Gonzalez has scored in each of the four victories while setting a club record for his position with 10 TDs on the year.

"I'm hungry. I want the ball," he said.

The third-year pro, who came into the game leading AFC tight ends with 614 receiving yards, feels securely locked into that elusive "zone" athletes talk about.

"That's the feeling that you want. That's the feeling you're searching for week in and week out," he said. "When you get that feeling, you can't be stopped."

The Chiefs, who play at Seattle next week, took the lead for good in the second quarter on Donnie Edwards' 28-yard interception return as the Steelers (5-9) lost their sixth straight. It's the longest skid for Pittsburgh since 1988.

"We knew every time they needed a big play they would go to him (Gonzalez)," Pittsburgh defensive end Kevin Henry said. "If you shut him down, you have a chance."

Gonzalez, the first dominant player at any offensive skill position the Chiefs have developed in more than 10 years, even threw the final key block on an 82-yard touchdown run by Derrick Alexander.

After slowing because he thought Alexander had been tackled, Gonzalez regrouped and leveled Pro Bowl linebacker Levon Kirkland as Alexander completed the Chiefs' longest scoring run since 1981.

"That was a great feeling, especially on a great player like that," Gonzalez said. "He didn't see me coming. Anybody can make a block when they don't see the guy coming. But I sprang D.A. and he made a great run."

The Steelers scored 10 points on their first two possessions and added a field goal at the end of the half, but then were shut out until Mike Tomczak's 11-yard touchdown to Bobby Shaw with 34 seconds left.

GAME NOTES
Chiefs first-round draft choice John Tait started at left tackle in place of the injured Glenn Parker.
Chiefs cornerback James Hasty has been bothered by a calf injury for three weeks and did not play.
Pittsburgh played at Kansas City for the sixth straight time, setting a record for most consecutive games at home by the Chiefs against the same opponent.
Pittsburgh's Kordell Stewart started at split end and ran for five yards on the first play of the game. He caught two passes for 21 yards.
The blocked field goal by Kansas City's Tom Barndt was the first of his career.
Steelers receiver Troy Edwards strained his right groin trying to run under a long pass in the third quarter and did not return.
Pittsburgh had 10 penalties for 65 yards, and has 57 penalties during the six-game losing streak.

Former Steeler Bam Morris got the Chiefs' last TD on a 10-yard run with 1:56 left. Mitch Lyons, after returning the ensuing kickoff, was taken off the field on a cart with a knee injury.

"It is not good," Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher said. "He dislocated his knee. It is not real positive. He is probably out, and (tight end) Mark Bruener is also out (with a foot sprain)."

Gonzalez caught scoring passes of 15 and 2 yards from Elvis Grbac. He also had a 23-yard reception to set up his second TD catch, which put the Chiefs up 21-10 late in the first half.

Alexander, a starting wide receiver, put the game out of reach with his tackle-breaking 82-yard score on an end-around. Five Steelers appeared to get a hand on him, then Gonzalez provided the last key block.

"The reverse they scored on was the big play of the second half," said Cowher.

Tomczak hit wide-open Troy Edwards on a 12-yard TD pass on Pittsburgh's first possession. Then Grbac was 4-for-4 on the Chiefs' opening drive, capped by Gonzalez's 15-yard scoring catch.

The Steelers were facing third-and-22 from their 23 late in the second quarter when Edwards stepped in front of Lyons and sailed 28 yards untouched for the Chiefs' eighth defensive touchdown of the season.

Late in the first half, Gonzalez hauled in a 23-yard pass to the 2, and then was wide open on the very next play for Grbac's pass into the end zone and a 21-10 lead.

The Steelers had a blocked field goal in the second quarter but overcame three false starts and a holding penalty at the end of the half to move 37 yards and set up Kris Brown's 47-yarder. Brown's 42-yarder in the first quarter put the Browns ahead 10-7.ter put the Browns ahead 10-7.
