CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- No. 1 overall pick Tim Couch completed 10-of-14 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown as the Cleveland Browns rallied for their first win at Browns Stadium, 35-24 over the Chicago Bears.

Rookie D'Wayne Bates' 86-yard kickoff return gave the Bears a 24-13 cushion with 1:09 remaining in the first half before the Browns reeled off the next 24 points to even their exhibition record at 2-2 and win for the first time in two attempts at their new facility.

Couch came off the bench and connected with fullback Tarek Saleh for a 27-yard TD pass with 5:19 to play, giving Cleveland a 32-24 lead.

Ty Detmer, who is the Browns' likely opening day starter, completed 10-of-15 passes, threw a pair of touchdowns and ran for a score. He found rookie Kevin Johnson with a 21-yard scoring strike with 11 seconds left in the first half to cut the deficit to 24-19.

Chris Boniol's 34-yard field goal in the third quarter pulled the Browns within a point and Phil Dawson's 21-yard boot put the Browns ahead for good, 25-24, just under four minutes into the fourth quarter.

Chicago rookie Cade McNown was 4-for-10 for 42 yards and hit Marcus Robinson with a 19-yard TD pass to give the Bears a 17-7 lead with 8:34 remaining in the second quarter.

Shane Matthews started for the Bears and completed 11-of-13 passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. Curtis Enis rushed for 40 yards on 10 carries in the first half for the Bears, who have also split four exhibiton games.
