Top five frontcourts

By Beth Mowins
Special to ESPN.com

Our take on the top five frontcourts in the nation:

Connecticut
Players to watch: Svetlana Abrosimova, Tamika Williams, Kelly Schumacher
Skinny: The Huskies' frontcourt is deep, athletic and tenacious. These players have the speed to dominate on both ends of the court, particularly on defense. They can be aggressive with shot-blocker Schumacher backing them up. They also can score in a variety of ways -- in the open court, in traffic and on the low block.

Tennessee
Players to watch: Tamika Catchings, Michelle Snow, Gwen Jackson
Skinny: The Lady Vols have always used a big rebounding edge to limit second chances for opponents and to trigger Tennessee's fast break. This trio gets on the glass at both ends and can mix it up. Their athleticism usually always gives them an edge because they can go around foes or over them to get to the basket.

Mississippi State
Players to watch: LaToya Thomas, Jennifer Fambrough
Skinny: Mississippi State has one of the top duos in the country on its front line. Thomas and Fambrough can both light up opponents for 30 points a night. They aren't afraid to get physical and have good footwork and body control around the basket. Mississippi State utilizes plenty of muscle around the basket.

Old Dominion
Players to watch: Lucienne Berthieu, Hamchetou Maiga, Tiffany Thompson
Skinny: Old Dominion's strength this season will again be in the paint. Berthieu provides the rebounding and physical presence. Thompson can do a little bit of everything for the Lady Monarchs while Maiga is a tough matchup due to her size and quickness.

Georgia
Players to watch: Deanna Nolan, Tawana McDonald, Tiaunna Briggans
Skinny: The Lady Bulldogs have plenty of firepower with Nolan and McDonald, who are just starting to tap into their potential and whose hard work is paying off. Nolan's quickness and grit complement the shot-blocking skills of McDonald while Briggans is an underrated defensive stopper for the Bulldogs.

ESPN play-by-play announcer Beth Mowins will contribute a bi-weekly women's college basketball feature throughout the season.
