(Editor's note: Duke junior guard Sheana Mosch, the Blue Devils' co-captain, will share a diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.) Jan. 8, 2002 I just got back from the movie theater. I've been there four times this entire week to see The Majestic, Ocean's 11, A Beautiful Mind, and Jimmy Neutron. Trust me, I definitely didn't plan out my entire day to see that last one.
Now, I love animated films and all (a big fan of Shrek, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, etc.), but Jimmy seriously let me down on this one. Oh well, I'll go to the movies anyway. I go by myself all the time and my friends all think I'm the biggest loser for that. My one friend back home would always ask me who I went with, and I'd say, "With the one I love most." She'd say, "You went by yourself again, didn't you, Sheana?" So! On New Year's Day, Joe and his wife, Jackie, had the whole team over for dinner. Jackie makes the greatest Thai food ever, so it was awesome. The kids got a Game Cube for Christmas (it's one of the newest video game systems), so of course I played on that the whole evening. They have this one snowboarding game where you stand on an actual plastic snowboard in order to play. You have to keep your balance, and to turn your little man to the left, you lean one way, to go right you lean the other way, etc. It's pretty difficult and a couple of my teammates were trying to get the hang of it. Alana Beard was determined to figure it out and she went through the course at least four times before she got more than single-digit points. So when she finally landed a few jumps and scored a 2,100, she started getting cocky and pumped her fists a few times and sat back down on her seat with her chin up in the air. Then Cassidy decided it was her turn so she stepped onto the plastic snowboard (please keep in mind that she is only 2 years old). She rocked back and forth, not even paying attention to the screen, occasionally baby-talking to the person next to her, and in the meantime sipping on the juice cup that was in her hand. When she crossed the finish line, I almost fell off my seat because she scored 3,800 points. She had landed more tricky jumps and done more maneuvers than Alana, who had been concentrating about as hard as if it were a game-winning free throw. Cass had no idea what she had just done until we all started cheering for her and making fun of Alana. Just to let you know, she's still the reigning house champion -- undefeated. She's unbeatable. Classes begin again tomorrow and I must admit I haven't started doing cartwheels for the schoolwork yet. It was so nice and much less stressful to just play basketball and not have anything else to worry about during Christmas break. I am pretty excited about a few of my classes, though. I'm a biological anthropology and anatomy major with a religion minor, so I'm always pumped about those ones. We play at Clemson on Thursday and N.C. State on Sunday, so make sure you keep an eye out for us! It's time for me to hit the sack. I'm pooped. For more information on Mosch and the Blue Devils, check out Duke's official athletic site. |
