They've got ... personality

Editor's note: Purdue forward Laura Meadows, a 6-foot-3 fifth-year senior who transferred from Kentucky in 2000, will share a diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.

Jan. 29, 2002

Though the morning began with a savage battle to persuade myself to abandon the warm sanctuary of blankets, the day proved to be worthwhile. A couple aspects of my teammates' personalities were made clear today.

Beth Jones can't sing. It's not her voice so much as the trouble she has discerning the proper key in which to croon. The kid belts out Celine Dion numbers at higher octaves than C.D. herself. However, this is not what became apparent today -- we've known this for some time. Her hidden vindictiveness reared its ugly head today during practice. Still reeling from our recent food fight and seeking proper revenge for the crumbled Oreo I left on her floor, B.J.B. shadowed my innocent ears all over Mackey Arena singing tunes ranging from Garth Brooks' "She Moves Me," to Dave Matthews' "Christmas Song." Evil, I tell you.

Emily Heikes -- your favorite freshman and ours -- remembers everything. She has a gift. If you mention your grocery list in her presence, and then find yourself stumbling through aisle 2 wondering what you forgot, you only have to call "Curby" to end your confusion. This trait became glaringly obvious today when some of us were lucky enough to be the benefactors of her mental prowess. My fellow post players and I have noticed for some time that our weekly film sessions would be even more enjoyable if we had some popcorn to munch on. Mary Jo, Lindsey, R and I have always failed to remember, but not the Curberator. The Boilermaker posts feasted on concession stand popcorn today and we want to collectively thank Curbs for her superior mental retention.

Okay, I've got to focus on this wonderful novel lying in front of me. A paper must be written tonight or my dear Professor Duvall will not be a happy camper. Have a fabulous week. Bye.
