Welcome to the WAC

Editor's note: Louisiana Tech's Brooke Lassiter, a senior guard and two-year co-captain, will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season.

Jan. 1, 2002

Happy New Year! I am in total disbelief that today is the beginning of the year 2002 and March is just around the corner. The season is well under way and our team is starting to find its personality and identity. One could argue and say we should have already solidified that identity, but it's better later than never!

Brooke Lassiter averaged 10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season.
We just returned from our first official WAC road trip and we came away with two big wins against Nevada and Fresno State. The West Coast was good to us but the travel is going to be a great test for us throughout the conference season.

There were a few interesting moments with our bus driver, Bob, on the trip and he even managed to do a decent job of "shuttling us women around." I think we gave him a memorable final trip of his driving career!

Speaking of driving, my parents and Mr. John (a huge Techster fan) drove all the way to Nevada and Fresno to watch us play. It was awesome to be out on the floor knowing that my parents had driven 27 hours to watch the games. What a blessing they are in my life!

After the Fresno game we rented movies in our rooms for a little entertainment. I had a progressive movie night by moving from room to room after each one ended and was able to see a couple of different movies. It was a great plan and it managed to pass the time nicely.

A few of us watched the thriller, "Joy Ride," and were a little frightened by its content. I wish I had a video of Nicole and I running back to our rooms and our encounter with the sketchy man in the hallway. It's pretty safe to say it doesn't take much to spook the two of us!

Our football team played in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise yesterday and we were unable to watch most of the game. We did catch a large part of the third quarter, though. Even though the Dawgs did not come away with the victory, they had a wonderful season and really gave the Tech fans much to cheer about. Thanks for an exciting season, guys!

Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful week and may God bless you all throughout the upcoming year!

See you all next week.

Brooke
