Editor's note: Louisiana Tech's Brooke Lassiter, a senior guard and two-year co-captain, will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season. Feb. 4, 2002 Well, this past week was the last of our long road trips of the WAC season. Our only remaining road trip is a two-game stretch to Tulsa and Rice, which is not too taxing of a trip for us. We have come up with some pretty good names for the conference dealing with its travel schedule and the lack of proximity the other schools are in relation to Ruston. It is not a jab at the WAC at all; we just get bored and have to apply our creativity in some way on these trips.
I really enjoyed the snowy mountains of Boise and would have loved to have been able to hit the slopes and make a couple of runs. I'm not sure that would have been in the best interest of our team at this point in the season, though. Anyway, the view was beautiful and I wouldn't mind heading back there for the regional Boise State will host in the NCAA Tournament. We seem to have a recurring theme with our bus drivers this year and it is DRAMA! We encountered another exciting adventure with our latest driver, Stella Swain. Stella, being the kind person she was, decided to drop us off in the "no parking zone" after the Rent-A-Cop instructed her to drop us off elsewhere. She opted for the restricted zone and we jumped off the bus faster than we have moved all year long. Bags were flying everywhere and we were trying to unload so Stella could move the bus before anyone noticed we were there. Bird and I had just hurdled a concrete barricade with our bags when we noticed "Barney Fife" jogging in our direction and shouting orders into his radio. The moment was priceless and it looked like something out of a movie. The "Barney" approaches the bus door and Stella refuses to open it and begins to put her foot on the accelerator. He jumps in front of the bus and demands her to open the door. Keep in mind this man looks like he is in his late 60 and is in no condition to be chasing anyone through a parking lot. Needless to say, Stella was determined to get our team where we needed to be even if it meant receiving a ticket for her actions. We decided the episode could be a new movie and the title would definitely be How Stella Got Her License Back. I think it would be a hit and would draw two thumbs up! We made it back to Ruston late Sunday night and missed the whole Super Bowl. I heard it was a great game and caught the highlights on SportsCenter, but I missed my favorite part: the commercials! I saw the top three on the Today Show this morning and they looked pretty funny. Katie and Matt sure seemed to enjoy watching them and laughing. I love watching their show in the mornings; it is the best! Well, I must end for now. I do have to wish my mom a happy birthday on Friday. I'll be nice and not reveal her age! See you all next week.
