'So much still to prove'

Guard Amy Zercher and Ball State are gearing up for the postseason.
Hey again! It has been two weeks since I last talked with you. Wow! So much can happen in just two weeks, or for our team, in just two days.

As we sat in the Buffalo airport Saturday night, our team became tighter than ever and made a monumental stride in preparing ourselves for the last leg of our incredible journey. Entering last week, there were three weeks left in the regular season, which meant this is the time for a team to be playing its best basketball in anticipation for the conference tourney.

However, and with much disappointment, we went in the opposite direction last week. Not to fear, though -- we know we can't quit now with so much still to prove.

On Wednesday, we traveled to Toledo, where we suffered our second conference loss in an 82-75 decision. We feel like we failed ourselves in this defeat by playing not to lose instead of playing to win. We lacked aggression and in addition to battling to Toledo, also had to fight own wavering confidence.

On Friday, we flew to Buffalo, N.Y., for a Saturday afternoon battle with the Bulls. Again, we came out apprehensive and played not to lose. Our team suffered another defeat, 79-69. The aspect of teamwork came into the picture -- enter the Buffalo Airport.

While waiting for our flight home, we (the players) all returned to the same page and took steps in making our team not just the same team from December and January -- when we won a record 11 straight games -- but an even better team. We wanted to be a group of players who faced rough spots and uncertainty together.

DIARY LINEUP
ESPN.com and FANSonly.com team up each week to present you with a new batch of women's college basketball player diaries, which lend some insight into the life of a student-athlete.

In two days so much happened to us. But the only people who don't face adversity are people who are too scared. So now is not the time to be scared. Now is the time to have some serious FUN! Having fun is what it is all about.

On a lighter note, we did encounter some moments of fun on our trip to Buffalo. Coach O decided to talk through our flight attendant's pre-departure speech, which resulted in a thorough tongue-lashing from the flight attendant in front of everyone.

After our practice that night, we were able to go to Niagara Falls. Everyone really enjoyed the sight. On our return trip home, both flights were half full, at most. So, in spite of hunger pains, our ride home was comfortable.

Hope you all have a good Valentine's Day,

Z
