Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- Kelli Spencer scored 11 of her 14 points in the final eight minutes as Pepperdine beat Santa Clara 69-57 in the West Coast Conference tournament championship game Sunday.

Spencer led Pepperdine's 13-2 run over a four-minute stretch that saw the Waves take a 55-50 lead with 4:05 left. Spencer hit all four shots and one free throw in the run as Pepperdine went ahead for good.

The Waves (22-7), the league's regular-season champion, won the WCC tournament for the second straight year and the conference's automatic NCAA bid.

No. 3 seed Santa Clara (20-10) scored just one basket in the final eight minutes, a jumper by Quinn Thomas with 3:12 that cut the lead to 57-54. The Waves then scored 10 straight points to take command, going 8-of-10 from the line.

Spencer, who scored one point in the first half, was 5-for-7 from the field and made four of six free throws. Keani Christianson finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for Pepperdine, which beat the Broncos for the second straight year in the WCC finals.

Tournament MVP Kendra Rhea led Santa Clara with 14 points and nine rebounds. Thomas had 12 points for the Broncos, who shot 34.5 percent in the second half after making 51.9 percent in the first half.
