BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU guard Scholanda Dorrell has left the Lady Tigers basketball team for personal reasons, coach Sue Gunter said. Dorrell, a native of Miami, averaged 10.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 29 games as a freshman last season. "Scholanda will certainly be missed,'' Gunter said. "She was a big part of our success last year.'' LSU was 18-12 last season and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Dorrell played high school basketball at Edison Miami High, the same program that produced former LSU and current WNBA star Marie Ferdinand. Dorrell started LSU's first eight games as a forward and picked up one more start in the Lady Tigers' Southeastern Conference opener against Georgia. She made the all-tournament team in the Crawfish Classic, the four-team tournament the Lady Tigers hosted last November. Dorrell scored 22 points in LSU's season opener against Grambling State, becoming the first Lady Tiger in more than 20 years to score more than 20 points in her collegiate opener. Dorrell's departure leaves LSU with 14 varsity players on its roster.
