Carey hopes to put concussions behind her

Associated Press

STANFORD, Calif. -- Jamie Carey, who starred for Stanford before missing the last two seasons because of recurring concussions, will transfer to Texas.

Carey was considered to be the future star of the Cardinal squad after being picked as Pacific-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000. But after sustaining a concussion a few weeks before the 2000-2001 season, Carey sat out the next two seasons.

The NCAA has granted Carey two years of eligibility and Texas could petition for a third year because Carey has played just one college season.

Carey averaged 11 points a game in her only season at Stanford and led the team in scoring in Pac-10 contests with 12.4. She is the school record-holder for 3-pointers in a single season with 81.
