Connecticut was the only school with more than one representative. Southwest Missouri State's Jackie Stiles, the nation's leading scorer in the 1999-2000 season, also was picked to the team.
Purdue post Camille Cooper, who was part of the Boilermakers' NCAA title run in 1999, also was selected.
"I'm extremely excited," said Purdue's career field goal percentage leader. "It has been a good experience, and I'm motivated to go out and play for my country."
USA Basketball's R. Williams Jones Cup team will vie for the Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan, from July 16-20. Forty-two collegians were invited to the trial process that began May 17 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Bonnie Henrickson of Virginia Tech will serve as the team's head coach. St. Joseph's (Pa.) Stephanie Gaitley and Grambling's Rusty Ponton are assistant coaches.
The Jones Cup team will reunite July 3-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, before departing for Taiwan on July 13.
Following the Jones Cup, the team will reassemble Aug. 29 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to begin training for a Sept. 3 exhibition game with the U.S. women's senior national team. | |
