Ryan injures hand in practice Sunday

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas' Lindsey Ryan will miss the NCAA Tournament after injuring her hand when she collided with a teammate during practice, the university said Monday.

Ryan injured her nonshooting hand on Sunday when she and Tracy Cook dove for a loose ball and collided on the floor.

An orthopedic hand surgeon who examined Ryan said X-rays show that she fractured three metacarpal bones in her left hand. She was fitted for a cast and will be sidelined from practice and play for five weeks.

Ryan was averaging 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game for the Longhorns, the No. 8 seed in the tournament's Mideast Region. She started in two games.

Texas plays St. Mary's of California on Friday in Knoxville, Tenn.
