Making their 17th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Cavs, who made a Sweet 16 appearance in 1997, have been exceeding expectations all season. Yet after surprising the lot and winning the ACC regular-season title -- despite some early-season turmoil when Erin Stovall left the team -- the Cavs came up a bit short in the ACC tournament, getting upset 67-63 by fifth-seed North Carolina. But as ACC Coach of the Year Debbie Ryan proved, you can't quite ever count out the Cavs. Virginia, which won 10 consecutive games during one stretch of the season, has beaten UNC, Duke, and North Carolina State (twice) in 2000, and should be a good bet for a first-round victory in the Big Dance. Senior guard Renee Robinson has been the Cavs' catalyst this season, along with Schuye LaRue, who was picked to the All-ACC Freshman team.
