STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Lisa Shepherd paced five starters in double figures with 26 points as 11th-ranked Penn State handed Maryland its first loss of the season with a 95-86 victory. Shepherd tied a school record by hitting 14-of-16 free throws and dished out a career-high seven assists. Freshman Kelly Mazzante added 21 points and Maren Walseth 16 for the Lady Lions (4-3), who made 30 of their 35 foul shots and all 16 in the second half. "That's the best Maryland team we've seen in a long time," Penn State coach Rene Portland said. "They were undefeated and their inside game was strong." Deedee Warley scored 16 points and Jamecca Harrell added 15 and 10 rebounds for the Terrapins (6-1). Penn State held Maryland to 40 percent (30-of-62) shooting and forced 26 turnovers.
