FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech didn't need to shoot well to win. Aleah Johnson scored 17 points to help No. 7 Texas Tech overcome a poor-shooting second half in a 63-57 victory over TCU on Wednesday night. "I thought our shot selection was not bad -- we just couldn't make anything," said Texas Tech coach Marsha Sharp. "Luckily we played defense well enough to win." Texas Tech (10-0) improved on its best start in school history and extended its winning streak over TCU to 35 games. Johnson scored six of the game's first 12 points as Texas Tech jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes. TCU got within 3 points on three separate occasions in the first half, but trailed 42-33 at the half after Melinda Schumucker-Pharies and Amber Tarr hit 3-pointers in the final minute. "We felt like we had to run some help in the post because we're not very deep there," TCU coach Jeff Mittie said. "We gambled on their perimeter shooting and they made us pay in the first half." Texas Tech shot 59 percent in the first half, but went cold in the second, making just 8 of 27 shots (29 percent). TCU (7-5) was unable to capitalize because of its own poor shooting. The Lady Frogs hit just 7 of 25 shots (28 percent). "We could have (won). The opportunities were there," said TCU's Tricia Payne, who had a game-high 19 points.
