PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Davalyn Cunningham scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting as seventh-ranked Rutgers opened the Coca-Cola Classic with a 61-39 rout of Northeastern.

The Lady Knights took control with a 10-0 first-half run that provided a 28-16 lead with 2:30 remaining. Cunningham started the spurt with a layup.

Rutgers (1-1) shot 52 percent (14-of-27) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes while holding Northeastern (2-2) to just 40 percent (6-of-15).

Shawnetta Stewart had 11 points and 11 rebounds off the bench and Tasha Pointer added 10 points for the Lady Knights, who held the opponents to their lowest total since an 83-39 win over St. John's on January 24, 1998.

It was Rutgers' first game since falling to North Carolina State in the Tip-Off Classic on November 14.

Tensha Tinsley scored 10 points and Garrette Glinton grabbed 10 rebounds for the Huskies, who shot 36 percent (16-of-44).

Northeastern faces Wisconsin on Saturday in the second game of this three-team tournament. The Lady Knights battle the Badgers on Sunday.
