CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (Ticker) -- Cheryl Kulesa scored 18 points and Angela Zampella added 17 as St. Joseph's opened its season with a 73-61 upset over No. 25 Virginia.

Kulesa hit 5-of-8 shots from the floor and 8-of-11 from the free-throw line and added seven rebounds for the Hawks (1-0).

Zampella shot 5-of-11 from the field, going 3-of-7 from 3-point range for St. Joseph's, which shot 42 percent (19-of-45) and used a 28-4 advantage from the line to put away the game.

The Hawks enjoyed a 43-30 advantage on the boards, led by Jana Lichnerova's 12 rebounds.

Schuye LaRue scored 18 points off the bench for Virginia (0-1), which shot 39 percent (27-of-68) for the game, only 33 percent (12-of-36) in the second half. The Cavaliers connected on only 14 percent (3-of-22) of their 3-point attempts.

The Cavs starting five connected on only 11-of-37 shots and contributed only 28 of the teams' 61 points.
