Turnovers sink Purdue on road

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Maxann Reese scored 32 points as Michigan State rolled to an 84-64 victory over No. 17 Purdue on Thursday night.

Kelly Komara scored 21 points and Katie Douglas added 11 for Purdue (17-7 overall, 9-5 Big Ten).

Michigan State (17-7, 8-5), which scored 26 points off 20 Purdue turnovers, outscored the Boilermakers 40-26 in the second half to stay unbeaten at home this season.

Reese's 17 points in the first 10 minutes helped Michigan State grab a 10-point lead. Reese had three 3-pointers in the first five minutes and then Kristen Rassmussen and Becky Cummings combined for 17 points to keep the Spartans ahead.

With Purdue down 34-24 with 5:45 left in the first half, Kelly Komara tallied three straight 3-pointers to pull the Boilermakers within one. Two free throws by Candi Crawford gave Purdue a 35-34 lead with 3:35 to play in the half.

Michigan State closed the half with a 10-3 run to lead 44-38.

Purdue closed within one point early in the second half before Michigan State used superior shooting to pull away by 20.

Purdue got no closer than 13 thereafter.

Michigan State outrebounded Purdue 32-26 and used 13 offensive rebounds to score 14 second-chance points.

Rassmussen finished with 17 points, Abby Salscheider had 14 and Cummings 13.
