North Carolina State holds off Clemson

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Terah James scored eight of her team-high 16 points Sunday in the final 2:07 as North Carolina State (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, No. 11 AP) held off Clemson 67-58.

Kaayla Chones added 13 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out in the final few seconds to help N.C. State (20-4, 11-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) take sole possession of first place in the ACC.

Tynesha Lewis added 12 points and Amy Simpson had 10 for the Wolfpack.

Angie Cossey led Clemson (16-8, 7-5) with a career-high 19 points. Joanie Mungro had eight, scoring six unanswered points that pulled Clemson within 54-51 with 2:33 to play.

Clemson trailed 61-56 with 39 seconds left after a layup and free throw by Krystal Scott. But the Wolfpack then sank six of eight free throws to secure its fifth straight win.

The Wolfpack jumped out to an 8-0 lead while Clemson started 0-for-8 from the floor.

But Cosey went 3-for-5 from the field over the last 10:03 of the first half, including a layup in traffic with four seconds left, as the Tigers closed within 29-27.
