| On fourth-and-goal from the 12, Oklahoma cornerback Derrick Strait broke up a pass in the end zone intended for Marcellus Rivers with just over 3½ minutes to play. Until then, OU was starring an unthinkable loss in the Cowboys' eyes. |
Call it a "Season Ball", because nobody on the OU sideline deserved one Saturday. But the Sooners will have a nice "11-0" "2000 Regular Season" painted on a pigskin somewhere in their trophy case. As for a "12-0" "Big 12 Champion", or "13-0" "National Champions" balls ... you'll have to stay tuned. |

While Brown supplied the winning points, Eric Crouch got the Huskers' kicker in range with the last few tricks in his bag of magic. Crouch rushed for 125 yards and 3 TDs. And while he did not have a great day passing, finishing 11-for-17 for 139 yards, he was nearly perfect in the final drive, going 3 for 4. Crouch's 17-yard sideline pass to Bobby Newcombe with less than 10 seconds left set up Brown's field goal.

Losses to the Trojans at the Coliseum in 1996 and 1998 cost them lucrative bowl bids, but it was a different story on this sunny day.
|
Bob Davie, who many thought wouldn't last the season in South Bend. But after enduring an OT loss to then-No. 1 Nebraska, and going 3-2 over the nation's toughest five games to start the season, the Irish are likely headed to a BCS bowl game with a 9-2 record. The Irish were 5-7 last season.
