It was a slow death for the Orangemen, who failed to gain a first down on seven of their first eight possessions in the first half. Meanwhile, Miami took a 23-0 halftime lead and took the Carrier Dome crowd of 49,327 (not to mention Syracuse) out of the game.The Canes' defense, which pitched the shutout and harassed redshirt freshman quarterback R.J. Chris Weinke, who threw three TD passes and won't need to call the doctor in the morning. After battling through flu-like symptoms to start the game, the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy finished with 353 yards to become the ACC's all-time leading passer. Quite possibly when the Huskies found out Oregon had lost to rival Oregon State, opening the way to Pasadena with a victory. Washington racked up 526 yards despite temperatures in the 20s and led 27-0 by halftime.Marques Tuiasosopo, who threw three touchdown passes and completed 11 of 20 passes for 190 yards. Tuiasosopo left the game after the third quarter, with the Huskies up 37-3. Jan. 1 vs. Purdue in the Rose Bowl.

Joey Harrington was hit from behind by Sefa O'Reilly midway through the fourth quarter. He fumbled, and OSU's DeLawrence Grant recovered the ball. Down 20-10 at the time, Oregon had driven to the Beavers' 10-yard line. We will give it to Jake Cookus, and why not? He seemed to get every other ball thrown his way. In this game, not until the final whistle. Favored by 21½ points, the Wildcats nearly blew their shot at a rematch with Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game.Larry Smith, who may have saved his job by getting his Tigers to stand up to the Wildcats. Remember, Missouri lost 66-0 in this finale last season. Saturday, they led 14-0 and 21-10 before K-State scored 25 points in the second quarter. Dec. 2 vs. either Oklahoma or Texas in Big 12 Championship game.

Rutgers went from nearly tying the game with its own turnover, to turning the ball over on two straight possession in the third quarter. The Irish turned the miscues into 14 points and a 38-17 lead with just over five minutes left in the quarter.The Jersey Kids, who returned to the Garden State. New Jersey prep stars Matt LoVecchio and Terrance Howard accounted for four Irish TDs, while New Jersey residents Ron Israel and Ryan Roberts created three of Rutgers' five turnovers. Drew Henson scored on a 1-yard bootleg with 1:18 remaining. Ohio State scored the first 14 points of the fourth quarter to make it interesting. But Michigan stopped Ohio State tailback Jonathan Wells at the Buckeyes' 18 on a fourth-and-1 with just over three minutes left to set up Henson's eventual game-clinching TD. Drew Henson, who must have impressed George Steinbrenner, his former boss and a good friend of Bo Schembechler. The Boss sat in attendance and watched Henson throw three scoring passes and run for a fourth. The way Henson played, maybe trading him to the Reds wasn't such a bad idea. The Razorbacks held Mississippi State on fourth-and-goal at the 1 in overtime. The loss combined with Auburn's victory over Alabama eliminates Mississippi State from a chance to win the SEC West Division's spot in the conference championship game in Atlanta. Brandon Holmes, who only played in the fourth quarter, but scored twice -- including the game-winner in OT. Holmes ran for 70 yards on 11 carries in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying touchdown with 1:02 left. Holmes then carried the ball on all five overtime plays for Arkansas and finished with a season-high 95 yards on 16 carries. Nov. 23 vs. Mississippi

Aaron Hunt hit his third FG of the game with just seven second to play, giving the Tigers an improbable victory. South Carolina seemed charmed when Thomas Hill fell on Derek Watson's fumble in the end zone with 59 seconds to go for a 14-13 lead. But Woodrow Dantzler hit Rod Gardner, for a 50-yard catch to South Carolina's 8 with 10 seconds remaining, setting up Hunt's heroics. Aaron Hunt, who made good on his three FG attempts -- the final one from 25 yards to win the game. It was a bit of redemption for Hunt, who missed twice in Clemson's 31-28 loss to Georgia Tech on Oct. 28. Final regular-season game. Bowl game TBD.

LaDainian Tomlinson took the UTEP's words to heart. The Miners had talked publicly about winning outright Western Athletic Conference title and then celebrating by tearing down TCU's goal posts and hoisting the trophy at midfield. They never came close to backing up their words, trailing 31-7 by halftime 37-7 entering the fourth quarter.LaDainian Tomlinson, who ran for a season-high 305 yards and three touchdowns to take over the nation's rushing lead and become only the ninth player to rush for over 5,000 yards in his career. Tomlinson ran for an NCAA Division I-A record with 406 yards against UTEP last season. Nov. 25 at SMU.

With about 6:30 left in the game, a group of Purdue players unveiled roses. Yes, Purdue is going to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 34 years.Montrell Lowe, who ran for 208 yards and four touchdowns. Drew Brees, however, become the first quarterback to lead the Boilermakers to Pasadena since Bob Griese. Not bad company Jan. 1 vs. Washington in Rose Bowl.

Not soon enough for Tide fans, who saw the worst since in Alabama history since going 0-10 in 1955 finally end.On a day not meant for offense, Auburn kicker Damon Duval supplied the points with three field goals from 22, 47 and 27 yards. Auburn fullback Rudi Johnson did picked up 130 yards for his 10th 100-yard effort of the season. Dec. 2 vs. Florida in SEC Championship game.

The Golden Eagles started gift-wrapping a win for the Bearcats. Southern Mississippi let a 24-7 lead get away by fumbling three times and throwing a pair of interceptions in the fourth quarter.Cincy quarterback Deontey Kenner, who threw two touchdown passes in a 61-second span during the fourth-quarter rally. Well, it started to go bad for Ole Miss when A.J. Kiamie snapped the ball over punter Reagan King's head, giving Georgia the lead with a safety. From there, the Bulldogs quickly turned a close game into a rout. Verron Haynes scored on a 1-yard run with just over a minute left in the third quarter and Tim Wansley returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth period for a 29-14 lead.Musa Smith, who ran for 144 yards, becoming the first Georgia back to break 100 this season. Georgia, which ranked 74th nationally with 131.2 yards per game on the ground, finished with a season-high 244 yards. Nov. 25 at Georgia Tech

Damien Anderson and quarterback Zak Kustok each scored twice in the first half to stake the Wildcats to a 28-2 lead by halftime. While they weren't Rose Bowl-bound, Northwestern was well on its way to its most points since 1944.Damien Anderson, who finished with four TD runs and 179 yards rushing to become Northwestern's single-season rushing leader with 1,914 yards. If not by halftime, when the Vols led 38-17, then certainly when Casey Clausen hit David Martin with a 33-yard TD pass to start the third-quarter scoring. Let's see, what about Travis Henry? He ran for 139 yards and three touchdowns and set a school rushing record, passing James Stewart's 2,890 career rushing yards with 2,894 yards. Nov. 25 at Vanderbilt
