What's new
Terry Allen changed most of his staff after last season and brought in seven new assistant coaches. Allen will now serve as offensive coordinator, hoping to revive a struggling offense that will have an entirely new starting backfield.
Battling it out
Spring drills brought no separation in the quarterback derby between Zach Dyer and redshirt freshman Mario Kinsey. Their stats in the Spring Game were almost identical, and Dyer maintains a slight lead entering the fall.
Eye catcher: DE Travis Watkins
The redshirt freshman emerged to take the No. 1 spot at left end thanks to a great spring. At 6-4 and 270 pounds, Watkins is very athletic and has shown good pass-rushing ability. He closed strong with five tackles and one sack in the Spring Game.
Budding star: WR Harrison Hill
With 47 catches last year, Hill earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors. He has the talent for a breakout season if the Jayhawks can find a quarterback to get him the ball. They did so in the Spring Game, when Hill had four catches for 69 yards.

Brad Edwards researches college football for ESPN and is a contributor to ESPN.com throughout the year.
