GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- As he sat in the cushy couch in the corner of his office, Dwayne Dixon reeked of anxiety. He couldn't stop fidgeting, he couldn't look you in the eye. Three hours separated the Gators' receivers coach from the moment All-American wideout Andre Caldwell would announce where he'd play college football and Dixon was struggling with the wait. "There's this nervousness in the pit of my stomach," he said. "My feeling is that he's coming to Florida, but then you wonder -- is he really going to come here or am I making stuff up in my head? "It's like that girl you're trying to date when you know six other guys with bigger muscles are chasing her just as hard. It bothers me." Dixon hadn't heard from Caldwell all day. Neither had head coach Ron Zook. Nervousness reigned, given the stakes. Caldwell is considered among the nation's top players, no matter the position, and his announcement would be broadcast live on SportsCenter. If he chose Florida, what a great commercial for the program. And if he didn't? "Let's not go there," Dixon said. "It's great that it's on television, but if he chooses another school, everyone is watching you with egg on your face." No egg. Caldwell will be a Gator. Wayne Drehs is a staff writer for ESPN.com.
