Thursday, December 5 User feedback: Where's the loyalty? ESPN.com |

A shocking decision No loyalty, no integrity, no nothing. All the preaching he has done about being loyal, and doing the right thing, and now he does something like this. What's going to happen with his future recruits? If I was a kid out of high school, I would not play football for him. He can't be trusted. Tom San Diego Good riddance. He seemed like a Texas man the whole time and doesn't have the (guts) to withstand the pressure as UA's coach. Don't get used to him A&M. The Cowboys will probably need a new coach in a couple of years. Clifton Leatherbury Mobile I think Franchione is a good coach who sees more sanctions coming for Alabama and has a great love for the state of Texas. To him, Alabama must not have been his pinnacle of college football coaching success. I do think it was inappropriate for him to address the Alabama players via teleconference. Hopefully he will address them face-to-face. Meanwhile, Alabama will survive and continue forward. It must be noted that Franchione, while considered by many a great coach, has not even won a conference title as a head coach yet -- much less a national title. Andy Milligan Olive Branch, MS I think he is making a big mistake. He has the talent at Bama to stay on top, and a top-10 recruiting class. I guess that is why you always look for someone with some kind of ties to a university. He will be gone from A&M at the end of his 5 years, if not sooner. Tim Morris New Orleans I'm totally shocked that he left after getting Alabama's players to stick it out with him during the sanctions, but he's done this before. Pumping up the team and walking out the back door. 'Bama is going to survive and thrive and unlike A&M we have won a championship in the past 10 years. Matt Memphis I don't blame the man for leaving Alabama after they were hammered last year, but I have a hard time with the fact that the man pleaded with the players to stay -- partly for his behalf. He even made that plea into the team's motto for 2002, "Hold the Rope." Not a single player left because of the sanctions. Too bad for the players, who were drilled with lessons on "trust" and "loyalty," virtues that flag the banner on CoachFran.com. It's amazing to me that Franchione was the one who, in the end, dropped the rope. Philip Panama City, FL I think it's rather ironic that the "Bear" left Texas A&M 45 years ago to come to Alabama and now Coach Fran is leaving 'Bama to go to Texas A&M. I'm from Mobile, AL and a lifelong Tide fan, and I don't like the fact that Coach Fran is leaving, but I can understand it given the circumstances he is facing with the probation the Tide is under. I just hope that we find a coach who is committed to living up to the terms of his contract with the University of Alabama, no matter what the circumstances are. Roll Tide Roll! Kelly M. Long Pensacola, FL College football is a business pure and simple. Fran is a businessman, not a coach. How he handled this situation unprofessionally and cowardly is the same way CEOs of big businesses (Enron, Worldcom) handled their positions. Texas A&M will only be his next stepping stone. Brian Bowman Houston. One year ago, Coach Fran asked the Crimson Tide players not to transfer to other schools and help him build a foundation. One year later he leaves them and his "foundation" for greener pastures in Texas. Hypocrisy at its best! Reed Nashville Back to national prominence for A&M A great move, brand new facilities, a huge athletic budget, and of course, The Real Deal, Reggie McNeal for three more years. Whoop! Joey LoSurdo College Station This is a great hire for Texas A&M, especially with the great recruiting class coming in. A&M has shown with the firing of RC Slocum and the hiring of Franchione that it is through with wallowing in mediocrity and wants to contend for the Big 12 and the national championship. Under Fran, the defense will be greatly improved and the offense with Reggie McNeal at the helm will continue to flourish. In my opinion, Texas A&M will sneak back into the national spotlight, and win the national championship in two years. Kyle Pittsburgh I think Fran will be a great match with A&M and the Big 12 -- although we have to play them every year I think it will help the conference overall! SoonercreamMuskogee, OK. Good move! The Alabama job is going nowhere with the NCAA sanctions on them. He would be blamed for the down turn in the program and it could ruin a promising career. Tommy Standard Athens, Ga. I think is was an excellent move by Fran. It was not his fault he walked into a bad situation blindly. On top of that, he made the best of a bad situation during his time at 'Bama. Being a Sooner fan, it is unfortunate. The Big 12 South just got even harder. Think of it, Coach Fran, McNeil, and the A&M defense at Kyle Field. ... That's downright scary!!! Rob Oklahoma City Great move for Coach Fran. He returns to the most fertile football recruiting land and a fan base that is loyal and passionate about winning. Welcome home to Texas, Coach! Dallas Ag 94 Dallas Hell yeah that's a good move (coming from a UT Longhorns fan)! I would never accept a job at a school on probation. Good luck Franchi!! Randy S. Houston Best choice of his life. No one should have to suffer at Alabama. Plus, we all know (Auburn) scared him away after that 17-7 win this year. Alabama is going down the toilet. Brian Berkowicz Auburn
