Lots of action even on a light weekend

By Jim Donnan
Special to ESPN.com

We had a light schedule this week, but there were still plenty of things to talk about. Upsets, comebacks, routs and turnarounds were all part of what was the last weekend of the regular season for most teams.

Here's a look at what went down as the season began to wind down.

Upset specials
Rashaun Woods
Rashaun Woods burned the Oklahoma defense for two TD catches covering 101 yards.
Oklahoma State over Oklahoma, 38-28: The Cowboys knocked off the Sooners for the second straight year, and for the first time in Bob Stoops' tenure his team did not hold the lead at any point in the game.

UNLV over Colorado State, 36-33: CSU came in with a chance to tie the school record with 11 wins, but the Rebels put together an 80-yard scoring drive that netted the winning touchdown in the final minutes.

Houston over Louisville, 27-10: Joffrey Reynolds set the Conference USA single-season rushing record today as the Cougars won one final game for lame-duck coach Dana Dimel.

Coaches of the Day
Les Miles, Oklahoma State: Has taken his team from 4-7 last year to 7-5 and a bowl bid, possibly the Tangerine Bowl.

John Robinson, UNLV: The Rebels finish just 5-7, but they were focused enough to knock off Colorado State on the road.

Woodshed games
Georgia over Georgia Tech, 51-7: Mark Richt and Company dealt the Yellow Jackets their worst defeat in six years and build some momentum heading into the SEC championship game against Arkansas.

Miami over Syracuse, 49-7: The 'Canes marched into the Carrier Dome and got their 33rd straight win, answering the doubters by jumping out to a quick 21-0 lead. Every Miami scoring drive lasted seven plays or less.

Oklahoma State over Oklahoma: The Sooners closed the gap somewhat in the fourth quarter, but were still outgained by more than 170 yards and allowed OSU to go at least 60 yards on every scoring drive.

Turnaround of the week: Maryland
Followed a 48-13 whipping at the hands of Virginia -- in which the Terps turned the ball over three times and lost a chance at a BCS bowl -- with a 32-14 drubbing of Wake Forest. Maryland piled up 383 total yards and a 27-0 lead by halftime.

Players of the day
Josh Fields and Rashaun Woods, Oklahoma State: Fields went 18-of-29 for 359 yards, four TDs and no picks. He got some help from Woods, who caught 12 balls for a school-record 226 yards and three touchdowns, including TD receptions of 41 and 60 yards.

The UNLV offensive line: Gave up no sacks and helped the Rebels amass 390 yards rushing, including 221 by Larry Croom. Quarterback Kirk Nantkes had time to hit Earvin Johnson for 12 catches, 129 yards and a touchdown.

Lee Suggs, Virginia Tech: His 108 yards on 19 carries helped the Hokies gain some confidence heading into the matchup with No. 1 Miami. Suggs also scored two touchdowns, extending his NCAA record for consecutive games with TD to 25.

Special teams alert: Virginia
Virginia Tech scored its first touchdown on a blocked a punt, rattling Virginia punter Tom Hagan enough that he dropped the snap on the next kick. On the bright side, Hagan threw an 8-yard pass following the muffed snap that turned into UVA's longest completion of the first half.

Memo to Mack Brown
If you want to figure out how to beat Oklahoma, watch tapes of the Sooners' losses to Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. And congratulations on leading Texas to the first back-to-back 10-win seasons in school history.

Games I can't wait to see next week
Colorado vs. Oklahoma: The Buffs come into the Big 12 championship game with revenge on their minds, while OU will try to put the upset by Oklahoma State out of its mind.

Arkansas vs. Georgia: Both have some momentum going, and the Bulldogs can stay in the hunt for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl with a win.

Virginia Tech at Miami: The Hokies look to derail Miami's Fiesta Bowl train in the Orange Bowl.

Army vs. Navy: Forget the records and enjoy the traditions of one of the best rivalries in the country.

ESPN.com college football analyst Jim Donnan will be taking part in chats and making observations on Saturdays as part of College GameDay Online.
