USC the wild card in bowl picture

ESPN.com

Well, it's all but done. We know who's in. Just a few details to work out.

So, here's the latest educated guess on the bowl lineup.

(Note: * means teams have accepted bowl bid.)

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Tempe, Ariz.
Friday, Jan. 3
8 p.m. ET (ABC)
BCS No. 1 vs. BCS No. 2
Ohio State* vs. Miami* -- The two unbeaten teams face off for the national championship. Who says the BCS doesn't work?

FedEx Orange Bowl
Miami
Thursday, Jan. 2
8 p.m. ET (ABC)
BCS vs. BCS
Iowa vs. Florida State -- We admit it. We held out hope the Rose Bowl could keep the traditional Pac-10/Big Ten matchup, but then reality set in. It looks like Iowa is heading to the Orange Bowl to meet Florida State. If it isn't Iowa, look for USC to meet Oklahoma.

Nokia Sugar Bowl
New Orleans
Wednesday, Jan. 1
8:30 p.m. ET (ABC)
BCS vs. BCS
USC vs. Georgia* -- While we know it will be Georgia, it's likely the Trojans -- one of the hottest teams in the country -- will play the Dawgs.

Rose Bowl
Pasadena, Calif.
Wednesday, Jan. 1
5 p.m. ET (ABC)
Big Ten vs. Pac-10
Oklahoma vs. Washington State* -- The Cougars are in. We know that. With Oklahoma's dominating win over Colorado, the Sooners are more than ready to head to Pasadena. But there is the slim chance Iowa could land here.

Capital One Bowl
Orlando, Fla.
Wednesday, Jan. 1
1 p.m. ET (ABC)
Big Ten No. 2 vs. SEC No. 2
Penn State* vs. Auburn -- Red-hot Larry Johnson and the Nittany Lions face a tough battle against an Auburn team that finished well -- a win over rival Alabama included.

Toyota Gator Bowl
Jacksonville, Fla.
Wednesday, Jan. 1
12:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
ACC No. 2 vs. Big East No. 2 or Notre Dame
NC State* vs. Notre Dame -- Well, we know NC State is in. If Notre Dame is left out of the BCS bowls, the Irish play here. If they get a spot in the BCS bowls -- likely the Orange -- then West Virginia is playing on New Year's Day.

SBC Cotton Bowl
Dallas
Wednesday, Jan. 1
11 a.m. ET (FOX)
Big 12 No. 2 vs. SEC No. 3/4 (or Notre Dame)
Texas vs. LSU -- Lee Corso's preseason dream matchup is still a good one, it's just in the Cotton Bowl, not the Fiesta Bowl.

Outback Bowl
Tampa, Fla.
Wednesday, Jan. 1
11 a.m. ET (ESPN)
Big Ten No. 3 vs. SEC No. 3/4
Michigan* vs. Florida* -- Michigan gets its wish and heads to Tampa. The Wolverines will face Florida, which stumbled in its regular season finale against Florida State.

Diamond Walnut San Francisco Bowl
San Francisco
Tuesday, Dec. 31
10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Mountain West No. 3 vs. Big East No. 4/5
Air Force* vs. Boston College -- Zoomies and exciting QB Chance Harridge invade San Francisco.

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl
Atlanta
Tuesday, Dec. 31
7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
ACC No. 3 vs. SEC No. 5
Maryland* vs. Tennessee* -- Imagine if both these teams had stayed healthy all season. Would they be in Atlanta or a BCS bowl?

AXA Liberty Bowl
Memphis, Tenn.
Tuesday, Dec. 31
3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
C-USA No. 1 vs. Mountain West No. 1
TCU* vs. Colorado State* -- This one is official and Colorado State RB Cecil Sapp and QB Bradlee Van Pelt make it worth watching.

Silicon Valley Football Classic
San Jose, Calif.
Tuesday, Dec. 31
3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
WAC vs. Pac-10 No. 6
Fresno State* vs. Virginia Tech -- With the Pac-10 out of eligible teams, Virginia Tech and "The Untouchables" travel out west to meet Fresno State. One possible note is with a chance of a Big East team taking the Motor City Bowl slot, does that open the door for South Florida to play here?

Wells Fargo Sun Bowl
El Paso, Texas
Tuesday, Dec. 31
2 p.m. ET (CBS)
Big Ten No. 5 vs. Pac-10 No. 3
Purdue* vs. Arizona State -- Purdue has the edge on Minnesota to land here. Arizona State and its high-flying offense should make this fun to watch.

Crucial.com Humanitarian Bowl
Boise, Idaho
Tuesday, Dec. 31
Noon ET (ESPN)
WAC vs. Big 12 No. 8
Boise State* vs. Iowa State -- Boise stays at home on the blue field with Seneca Wallace and the Cyclones coming to town.

Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl
Nashville, Tenn.
Monday, Dec. 30
2 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Big Ten No. 6 vs. SEC No. 6
Minnesota* vs. Arkansas -- The Hogs have a had a great year winning the SEC West, and will face an upstart Minnesota team.

Seattle Bowl
Seattle
Monday, Dec. 30
5:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Mountain West No. 4 vs. ACC No. 5/6
Oregon vs. Georgia Tech -- Ducks slip down to Seattle after a disappointing finish.

Continental Tire Bowl
Charlotte, N.C.
Saturday, Dec. 28
11 a.m. ET (ESPN2)
Big East No. 4/5 vs. ACC No. 5/6
West Virginia vs. Virginia -- If West Virginia is bumped by the Irish, it winds up here against Virginia.

Alamo Bowl presented by MasterCard
San Antonio
Saturday, Dec. 28
8 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Big Ten No. 4 vs. Big 12 No. 4
Wisconsin* vs. Colorado -- Great running back showdown between Wisconsin's Anthony Davis and CU's Chris Brown.

Pacific Life Holiday Bowl
San Diego
Friday, Dec. 27
8 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Pac-10 No. 2 vs. Big 12 No. 3
UCLA vs. Kansas State -- The Holiday Bowl would love to keep a Southern California team in the mix. If the Bruins beat Washington State, however, it would be the Cougars, not UCLA, against Kansas State.

MainStay Independence Bowl
Shreveport, La.
Friday, Dec. 27
4:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Big 12 No. 5/6/7 vs. SEC No. 7
Nebraska vs. Mississippi -- The Huskers face Eli Manning and Ole Miss.

Houston Bowl
Houston
Friday, Dec. 27
1 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Big 12 No. 5/6/7 vs. C-USA No. 3
Texas Tech vs. Southern Miss* -- Kliff Kingsbury ends his college career in Houston.

Insight Bowl
Phoenix
Thursday, Dec. 26
8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Big East No. 3 or Notre Dame vs. Pac-10 No. 4
Pittsburgh* vs. Washington -- The Huskies finished strong, winning the "Northwest Championship" and head into the Insight Bowl to play Pittsburgh.

Motor City Bowl
Detroit
Thursday, Dec. 26
5 p.m. ET (ESPN)
MAC No. 1 vs. Big Ten No. 7
Toledo* vs. Texas A&M -- Toledo plays for the MAC title and then gets a trip against A&M's Wrecking Crew defense. If A&M doesn't go here, a Big East team could move here (Va. Tech?).

ConAgra Foods Hawaii Bowl
Honolulu
Wednesday, Dec. 25
8 p.m. ET (ESPN)
WAC vs. C-USA No. 4/5
Hawaii* vs. Tulane* -- June Jones says Hawaii QB Timmy Chang will win a Heisman before he leaves Hawaii. Watch now and say you saw him way back when.

Sega Sports Las Vegas Bowl
Las Vegas
Wednesday, Dec. 25
4:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Mountain West No. 2 vs. Pac-10 No. 5
New Mexico* vs. Oregon State -- Oregon State's dangerous RB Steven Jackson is worth the price of admission.

Mazda Tangerine Bowl
Orlando, Fla.
Monday, Dec. 23
5:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
ACC No. 4 vs. Big 12 No. 5/6/7
Clemson* vs. Oklahoma State -- Clemson gets the invite and meets red-hot Oklahoma State, fresh off a huge upset of the Sooners.

GMAC Bowl
Mobile, Ala.
Wednesday, Dec. 18
8 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
C-USA No. 2 vs. MAC
Louisville* vs. Marshall* -- Dave Ragone vs. Byron Leftwich. Is that any good?

New Orleans Bowl
New Orleans
Tuesday, Dec. 17
7 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Sun Belt No. 1 vs. C-USA No. 4/5
North Texas* vs. Cincinnati* -- Mean Green back in New Orleans to face the Bearcats, who wanted no part of returning to Hawaii.
