We asked for your opinion of the entire situation. Here's what you had to say: Davis is a classless clown Butch Davis should rot in hell. He is a pathological liar who lied fortuitously over the past month. Over and over, "I am going to be the coach at Miami next year." Liar. Joe Cane Winter Park, Fla. I hope Butch Davis falls flat on his face in Cleveland. He is an idiot. I can't believe everything he said about staying at Miami and then he is gone. Hey Butch, if you're going to go coach Cleveland, tell your players at Miami your going leave, JERK! Jeff Mayberry Detroit Davis is a spineless coward. He had every intention of leaving UM and he chose to do it at the worst possible time with the national signing day a week a way! I hope he never wins a game in Cleveland. He has damaged the University's chances of landing a stellar class this year and continuing their momentum towards a national title because I think Larry Coker would be a good choice. He has a great offensive mindset and he already has the trust of the players. Davis was a defensive guy anyway so they shouldn't skip a beat.Good riddance Butch! Sean Cziryak Middletown N.J. As an alumnus, I'm shocked that a coach who went through everything the "right" way for the last six years could end his term in such a wrong way. I really feel bad for guys such as Reed, McKinnie and Gonzalez who passed up big NFL bucks for this snake. Here's hoping Coker can bring the national championship back to Coral Gables. Eric Okurowski Babylon, N.Y. When did the statement 'I will do what is best for me' become acceptable? Is it okay if it's best for you but screws over everyone else? Butch is selfish and a liar. I hope this tarnishes his image. Brian Milbury Chicago To Buck Ortega, QB recruit: "I took this job to be my last one. I'm going to stay until I retire. Come here and we'll have a lot of fun." To Joaquin Gonzalez, UM OL: "I really want to be here, don't worry about me, I'm going to retire here, I don't want an NFL job." During an interview: "I plan on being here in 2010." After leaving the Houston interview: "Never once have I said I ever wanted to go to the NFL." About the Browns rumor: "There's no interest at all." What happened Butch??? You're sad! Kaki Sanchez Miami Butch, undoubtedly, did a great job during his time in Miami. But leaving the 'Canes high and dry during recruiting season invalidated everything he has done for them. Gabe Miami A head coach is supposed to be a father figure, role model and someone his player's can trust. He is, after all, one of the most influential people in those kids' maturing years. What he has done is turn his back on the players who trusted him and the University that gave him a great opportunity. He has set a terrible example as to what is important in life and I hope Cleveland gets the crap kicked out of them week in and week out. Mac White Dallas As a life-long fan of the Miami Hurricanes, I have never felt so betrayed. Butch Davis has pulled off one of the most selfish acts that I have seen in college sports. He lied to a University that put its trust in his promises, and he lied to his players, some of whom put off NFL dollars to stay and play with him one more year. He may have crippled the very program he sought to rejuvenate. By leaving so late, and by repeatingly misleading everyone around him, he forced other coaches eyeing the Miami job to move on leaving Miami with a mediocre coordinator in charge. (FSU's Richt and UM's own defensive coordinator Schiano were at the top of a short list if Davis had left at an appropriate time.) Butch, who preached principles to his players taught them one last lesson: "If the money is right, honor and committment means nothing". Kevin Hanover, N.H. Understandable move, wrong timing I can hardly begrudge Coach Davis's decision. He has every right to advance his coaching career. However, the manner in which he did so was underhanded and detrimental to UM's program. Had he left on good terms and with adequate notice, the University could replace him without substantial harm to its recruiting class. After all, no one is irreplacable. By leaving when and how he did, Coach Davis unnecessarily sullied his reputation, and damaged the program that gave as much to him as he gave to it. William Berk Miami Hard to blame a man for basically increasing his compensation nearly fourfold ($900,000 to $3,500,000). However, when is enough, enough? Trust, when broken is almost impossible to repair. I wonder if Butch will consider drafting any of the Hurricane underclassmen when they become eligible for the NFL draft in the coming years? What a disappointment. J.C. Russell St. Petersburg, Fla. Bring back Jimmy! Butch Davis just showed how low class he is. Let's get Jimmy Johnson back! Chuck Slater Aspen, Colo. Liars becoming the norm in college football Well, 'Canes fans, I feel your pain. As a loyal Northwestern fan, I've got two words for you: Gary Barnett. Their situations were eerily similar: great success, annual dalliances with potential suitors, and walking out after very recent promises to stay. Unfortunately, this is becoming the norm and not the exception in college football. Louie Vaccher Skokie, Ill. Miami will survive When they say that it's not about the money, it's about the money. As a 'Canes fan and former student I wish him well. His NFL market value had probably peaked and I'm sure he knew this. The 'Canes won under Johnson and Erickson before Davis and they will win under a new coach. With regard to the recruiting issue, if you ever spend a winter day on the UM campus you'll be hooked. These are 18-19 year old kids. Miami is a COOL place. I'm not concerned. Kyle Wallace Dallas
