User feedback: Is Vick ready for the NFL?

ESPN.com

Michael Vick is leaving Virginia Tech for the NFL. We asked for your opinion on Vick's decision. Is he ready for the pros? Should he have stayed another year? Will he be the first pick in this year's draft? How successful will he be in the NFL?

Here's what you had to say:

He's ready to be ready for the pros. I wish he could stay but it's hard to pass up that kind of money. When you win the lottery, you don't keep your job down at the sawmill, even if you like it. The best thing about Vick is that he is fun to watch and he loves to make highlights. He's a guy who loves to make his team look good. Best of all, he's humble and aware of who is watching. Don't look for any Pete Rose uh-oh moments from Vick. Instead, look for a player who can make us tolerate Dennis Miller long enough to watch him.

I believe if Vick has a very good opportunity to become the No. 1 pick in the entire draft, it is really a no brainer... he should enter the draft. His mind may not quite be there, but his body is. He has a lot to learn, but I do know that I have ever seen anybody with his athletic ability play quarterback. Period.

Michael Vick is not ready for the NFL. He needs serious development before taking over an NFL team. His potential is great, but before turning into another Kordell Stewart, Vick should hold the clipboard for about three years before being sent out on the field.

I think that Vick has decided to leave too early. He is not mature or ready to be playing in the pros. I think he should have stayed another year to improve his skills. He missed part of this season, so he really doesn't have that much experience. I do not think that he will be successful in the NFL because I think the pace will be too fast for him.

I think it is a very good decision. The ultimate dream for an athlete is to make it to the pros. Micheal Vick has that opportunity and he's following through on his dream. There is nothing wrong with a person pursuing his or her dream.

I think he should have stayed on more year. I don't feel he is ready mentally for the pros. The NFL is so much faster that college. He needs to get tougher physically. He sprung is ankle when he got hit this season. What will he do when he gets hit from someone like Ray Lewis? His feet and speed will not always win a game. He needs to work on his passing game.

Recently, there has been increasing resentment to the idea of players leaving school early for the pros. They say the athletes aren't ready mentally, fundamentally or physically. But not this time. Vick is the exception to those arguments, and if any player should be turning pro, it is him.

I think that Michael Vick's decision was stupid. He should get his degree first, then play pro. He should have also stayed for another year to help the Hokies make a run for the title and give himself a shot at the Heisman.

I think it is a great decision on Vick's part. He might still need some experience, but he would be better off getting it in the NFL even if it's on the sidelines for a year or two. He is one of the most talented players to come out in a long time!

Jared Pratt

I think he might be the best talent to come to the NFL in many years. Vick's potential is tremendous. He will make Donovan McNabb and Daunte Culpepper look like they are standing still. This kid is LIGHTNING!

Michael Vick is arguably the best quarterback in the world. He passes, he scrambles, and he thinks when he makes his decisions. The fact that he never lost a regular season college game he played as a starter is incredible. I'm one of those people who think that it is foolish to skip your college years to join the professionals. But in this situation, I don't see anything that he could have gained by staying for those last two years.

It's clear Michael Vick was scared by his ankle injury this season and worried about losing out on the millions his athleticism is worth in the NFL. He made an economically sound decision because the only one making that kind of money off his athleticism right now is Virginia Tech. However, if Vick wanted to develop along the lines of a Donovan McNabb he should be doing that in Blacksburg. He now runs the very real risk of becoming another Kordell Stewart.

Vick is obviously a great athlete, but not as good of a quarterback as people make him out to be. He attempted to throw over 25 times twice this year. He is a runner, not a thrower. In an NFL quarterback, you throw first, run second. Vick will regret this decision.

Mike Walsh
Atwater, Minn.

I think Michael Vick is making a big mistake. Even though he has proved to be a great athlete in college, the NFL is a totally different story. Besides, if he goes No. 1, he'll go to the Chargers. How bad of a situation is that? I can see him becoming another Akili Smith.

David Delifus
Columbus, Ga.

With the phenomenal talent that Michael has, he would be an absolute fool not to come out this year if he is projected to be the No. 1 draft choice. Where else does he have to go but down if he doesn't come out now? I'm all for student-athletes staying in school like Peyton Manning did, but Peyton's situation was quite different. With untold millions in your bank account, a college degree takes on a lot less significance in the short term. He has plenty of time to finish school later if he so chooses.
