Eleven weeks are in the books and each Saturday has provided more than its share of excitement and suspense. Here's a look at some of the responses from ESPN.com users:
Simply put, the most incredible week of college football to date this year.
Joseph Smith
What a weekend in college football. Every time you think you've seen it all, a team like Michigan State comes along and proves you wrong. As a Canadian I don't get to see the number of games that I would like to, but I still tune in every Saturday and I am always throughly entertained. I didn't write to cheer or jeer teams, I just thought I'd write and say that I love college football and I hope that next Saturday is as exciting as this past Saturday was.
Kevin Gibbs
This football season is sooo far from over. Ohio State proved that. Kansas State is coming up on the toughest part of their schedule with possibly 3 consecutive teams in the top 15. Tennessee has a big showdown with Arkansas, maybe twice! UCLA has 2 tough away games and a dogfight with USC left. And those teams from the state of Florida are about to battle in, what I think, is the most talented and entertaining series this decade. Don't leave out Wisconsin and the rest of the top 10. Ladies and Gents, anything can happen. From here on out is a football lover’s paradise! Let's rumble!
Paul Matlack
Texas A&M's defense is absolutely amazing. Dat Nguyen is the best defensive player in the country,
Marcel LeJeune
Is there any doubt that the most important game before the end of the year will be the Big 12 championship game? Kansas St. vs. Texas A&M. Having not allowed a touchdown in 10 quarters, A&M's ability to shut down their opponent's offense seems to be increasing with every game.
Brian Shelley
All the kudos in the world to Michigan State for their hard-fought victory over Ohio State. Nick Saban, despite the record, is doing a great job with those Spartans, winning at least two that I know of in front of a huge national audience.
Jeremiah Conway
Just another typical year in the life of an Ohio State fan.
Ron Place
It's not over yet folks. Ohio State may have lost but almost every team ahead of them plays at least one tough game between now and the end of the year.
Jason Day
It was great to see the Ohio State Buckeyes exposed as the frauds they are last Saturday. It just goes to show that media hype doesn't win football games.
Kurt Goering
The objectivity of the computer rankings appears to be very flawed. Apparently, the computers in Seattle, which have the much overrated UCLA Bruins ranked No. 1 appear to be running on the "homer" chip, rather then the latest pentium utilized by Sagarin and the New York Times.
Robert Keilch
AP voters should get their sanity checked for placing Ohio State ahead of Wisconsin in their poll. Ohio State just lost at home to a team that lost to the very average Minnesota team that Wisconsin beat. Wake the heck up and give the Badgers some respect.
Adam Glatczak
It's been a long 42 years...... Go Vols!
Chad McDaniels
How can Tennessee be ranked No. 1? The only reasons that it isn't 7-2 is a very generous pass interference penalty (vs. Syracuse) and a missed short field goal in overtime (vs. Florida) The SEC is very weak this year, and Tennessee's record is a product of that weakness. It would be a shame for either Kansas State or UCLA to lose a chance at the title because of this Tennessee team.
Tyler Scimeca
I'm glad the BCS numbers finally reflect what Southerners have known all along: Tennessee is the best team in the nation and the SEC is the toughest conference in the country. Kansas State has been overrated since the season began, despite the fact that they play weak teams and run up the score to impress the computers. I'm glad they may have a chance to lose to Tennessee in the Fiesta Bowl.
John Sumners
UCLA rightfully deserves to be the first placed team in the country. Although UCLA has had close calls in the past couple weeks, they keep winning. They have eight wins and zero losses with a strength of schedule unrivaled by Kansas St. and Tennessee. Winning is what matters, not by how many points -- just ask Michigan St.
Brian Lee
UCLA ranking third in the AP and USA Today/ESPN coaches Polls? Ranked No. 2 in the BCS? Give us a break, please. We here at Oregon State voiced our opinions Saturday afternoon: "Overrated". If that is the case, why not Stanford No. 4 and Oregon State No. 5? You can actually tell me that UCLA is ranked over either Florida or Florida State based on wins and losses? Somebody out there must have a little intelligence.
William Duffy
The next Gary Barnett? Oregon State's Mike Riley. Three straight close games -- all one-point losses or in the case of UCLA, a lucky late TD. Oregon State appears to be rising.
Greg Zuvich
I keep hearing people talk about how UCLA is very overrated. I'm not going to agree or disagree right now though. If UCLA can win at Washington, against USC, and at Miami, then I think that it will shut all the doubters up. I don't believe that Kansas St. will beat Nebraska, Missouri, and probably Texas A&M, and I'm not convinced that Tennessee won't be upset by Arkansas. So watch out everybody, you might be eating your own words.
Jeremy Presser
Joe Germaine showed just how great Cade McNown is. Germaine couldn't even win one game under pressure while McNown has won the last four weeks under this type of pressure.
Tim Herrin
Revenge of the fifth down is complete! Missouri with back-to-back seasons of at least seven wins! Pinch me I must be dreamin'!
Brian Rorie
The Missouri Tigers have truly turned the corner. After thrashing the once mighty Colorado Buffs 38-14, the Tigers will find out just how far they've come during the Larry Smith era when they play Texas A&M on Saturday. Five years ago, in former coach Bob Stull's last season, the Tigers went to College Station and lost 73-0! If Corby Jones and Company can pull off the upset, Larry Smith should run for governor.
Justin Johnson
No Fifth down, no omniturf, no excuses for Colorado as they got their butts kicked by a very good Missouri team. If Rick Neuheisel thought last years defeat to Missouri was a "fluke", then what was Saturday's game. It wasn't luck, it was being outplayed by a better team in every aspect of the game. Colorado has found out that things have changed at Missouri for the better and it will continue as long as Larry Smith is here.
Jeff Vanost
Michigan is back! The maize and blue are ready to play, and are gonna stomp over Wisconsin and Ohio State, no doubt. With all the concerns over their offense, they put on quite a show against a very strong Penn State team. Their only losses (Syracuse and Notre Dame) were against strong teams (remember the 'Cuse's one point loss to Tennessee). Michigan, in the Rose Bowl once again!
Mike Hartt
The best goal line stand of the season occured at Chestnut Hill on Saturday, when Notre Dame stopped Boston College's Mike Cloud on four consecutive plays -- the last coming on 4th and inches. N.D. may not have the talent this year, but they certainly have the heart and the intangibles to win. I guess the luck of the Irish continues.
Shamus O'Reilly
It must really bother all you Notre Dame haters that the Irish simply will not lose. It's time to face reality people-- Notre Dame football, after a short hiatus, is back among the college elite. You can say all you want about their schedule or their "luck," but I guarantee that on any given day Notre Dame can go out and beat whoever they face.
Rich Shordt
Notre Dame tops BC with the best goal line stand I've seen in a long time. Notre Dame fans, including myself, have to be elated with the win and the 7-1 season. However, one has to question how they let themselves get into a goal line stand situation with a team they should have handled easily.
Todd Gabriel
Why isn't Alabama getting any respect? They do have three loses but look who they're against: Arkansas, Tennessee, and Florida. That's a combined record of 23-1. Bama deserves to be in the top 25.
Mark Mclean
Lou Tepper must go before he takes LSU down the drain with him. I knew we were in trouble when he said that it would take three years to fully install his defense. LSU football is not a slow-growth mutual fund, or a 401K plan, and patience is not a given much less a virtue.
Lewis Biggers
Coach Terry Shea of Rutgers has done more than expected by taking an 0-11 team in '97 to 5-4 thus far in '98.
Gregory Foote
The winner of the Florida - Florida St. matchup will play in the Fiesta Bowl. Put it on your calendar.
John Steed
Q: What's the best team in the Pac-10 today?
Jeff Malcomb
Travis Prentice and the Miami University RedHawks roll on with a 41-10 victory. Time for the bowls to take note!
David Schaefer
I'm a big Penn State fan. In my lifetime I have never been so disgraceed to call myself one. It's bad enough last year they lost to Michigan big. But to have it happen two years in a row is pathetic.
Pete Skoutelas
What's the most suprising upset of the day, you ask? Ohio State losing to Michigan State? No. Michigan beating Penn State? Sorry, wrong again. It's Illinois over Indiana.
Jeff Rollman
It is never easy. It is rarely pretty. It is always tense. The Wyoming Cowboys and the Colorado State Rams locked up in a classic and the Pokes gutted out in the end. There were 14 inches of snow, it was cold, and the field was muddy and wet. The win should move the Cowboys into the top 25.
Kevin Bommer
I'm sick of people whining about teams running up the score. Folks, they are out there to win, and to give less than 100 percent goes against most coaching philosophies. Plus, if a team is able to score and doesn't -- well, it sounds like point-shaving to me.
