McGahee out of hospital two days after surgery

Associated Press

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami Hurricanes tailback Willis McGahee was released from the hospital Tuesday, two days after undergoing surgery to repair a knee injury that will prevent him from turning pro this year.

McGahee tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee Friday during the fourth quarter of Miami's 31-24 double overtime loss to Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

The sophomore, who rushed for a school-record 1,686 yards this past season, was projected to be a first-round draft pick before the injury.

McGahee now is expected to play at least one more season with the Hurricanes. His surgeon, Dr. John Uribe, said McGahee is expected to make a full recovery but did not offer a timetable.
