Georgia's Jonathan Sullivan has decided to bypass his final year of college eligibility and enter the NFL draft, ESPN.com has confirmed, further bolstering an already deep defensive tackle pool. Sullivan's decision is hardly surprising to NFL scouts, who for more than a month believed the Bulldogs' interior star would opt to go pro. Sullivan sought counsel from the league's advisory board, which evaluates underclassmen, and the group of personnel men apprised him he should be selected in the first or second round in April. The consensus is that Sullivan will be chosen from the middle-to-end of the first round. "He's got a huge upside," one NFL personnel director said. "He might turn out to be even better than the last two tackles they sent (to the NFL)." The scout was referring to Richard Seymour (New England) and Marcus Stroud (Jacksonville), both chosen in the first round of the 2001 draft. Georgia also had a defensive end, Charles Grant (New Orleans), taken in the first round of last year's draft. The 6-foot-4 Sullivan doesn't have the height of Seymour or Stroud, but he is a solid 304 pounds, and displays excellent inside quickness. Sullivan had 74 tackles, four sacks and 29 quarterback pressures in 13 regular-season games for the Southeastern Conference champs. Georgia also beat Florida State to win the Nokia Sugar Bowl and finished with the No. 3 ranking in the final Associated Press media poll.
