Officials: Coach has dicrepancies on resume

Associated Press

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The head football coach at tiny Allegheny College has resigned after school officials said Wednesday that they learned of discrepancies in his resume.

Blair Hrovat never received a bachelor's degree from Edinboro University in 1985 as he had claimed, the school said in a statement. Hrovat has been the head coach at Allegheny since 1998.

College president Richard Cook has scheduled a news conference for Thursday.

Hrovat has an unlisted phone number and could not be reached for comment.

George O'Leary, the former football coach at Georgia Tech, lost his job at Notre Dame in December, within a week of his hiring for false claims on his resume.

Last month, U.S. Olympic Committee president Sandra Baldwin resigned after admitting she lied about her academic credentials.

Charles Harris stepped down earlier this week, one day before he was to have been introduced as the Dartmouth's new athletic director. The school said he admitted submitting a resume with false academic information.

Allegheny, about 35 miles south of Erie, has about 1,800 students.

The Gators have a record of 26-14 under Hrovat, 20-7 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
