ORLANDO, Fla. -- University of Florida defensive end Kennard Ellis Jr. was charged with drug possession after deputies found him smoking marijuana in a car.
Ellis was charged late Thursday with a single felony count of possession of marijuana. He was booked, jailed and later released.
Deputies spotted Ellis and a friend in a car smoking marijuana after they received a phone call about a domestic disturbance, according to the charging affidavit.
Smoke was coming from a partially-open window. When a deputy patted down Ellis, she found 32.2 grams of marijuana in a plastic bag in his front pocket, according to the affidavit.
No one answered the phone at Florida's sports information office after hours. Ellis has an unlisted phone number in Orlando.
Ellis' arrest was made public the same day Steve Spurrier announced he was resigning as Florida's coach. |
