Furman lost a chance to win the NCAA Division I-AA title on Friday night. Now it appears the school might lose something else -- its head coach.

Bobby Johnson agreed in principle to a deal that will make him the new coach at Vanderbilt, The Tennessean reported Saturday. The official announcement is expected Sunday, according to the newspaper.

It looks like Johnson's last game at the school was Friday night's 13-6 loss to Montana in the I-AA championship game. Johnson said after the game that he was not planning on going anywhere.

"I am not standing on anything but Furman football," Johnson, 50, told The Associated Press. He has been the head coach at Furman for nine years.

Woody Widenhofer resigned as Vanderbilt coach on Nov. 8 after five years at the school. He was just 4-33 in Southeastern Conference play, with just one league victory the past two seasons.

Widenhofer was the latest coach who was unable to reverse the fortunes of Vanderbilt's program. Vanderbilt was 2-9 this season -- 0-8 in conference play. Vanderbilt has gone 19 years without a winning season.
