Gophers won't speculate about possible suspensions

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota is investigating a report that some football players stole and used a university employee's telephone calling card.

"Frank Kara, our compliance officer, and another member of the university general counsel are looking into it," athletics director Tom Moe said Friday. "Early indication is the calling card number was taken from, stolen from, a staff person at the university."

Moe said the investigation began a week ago and could be completed shortly. He wouldn't say how many Gophers football players were involved or identify them but did say "early indication is some were."

Moe also wouldn't say whether the investigation could lead to players being suspended from the Dec. 28 Micron-pc.com Bowl game against North Carolina State.
