Rutherford out with torn ACL

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Backup offensive lineman Jon Rutherford may not live up to expectations of becoming a key player in the Cornhuskers' 2000 offensive line due to an injury.

Rutherford, a 6-foot-3, 300 pound junior from Midwest City, Okla., tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's 56-17 win over Kansas.

Nebraska head coach Frank Solich said Rutherford is "probably lost for the season."

Rutherford played in every game in the 1999 season as a backup left tackle behind senior starter Adam Julch. He totaled 14 knock-down blocks that season.
