TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- A star player for Florida State's
national championship football team was arrested and charged with
soliciting an undercover policewoman for sex.
Safety Derrick Gibson, projected as a leading selection in the
next NFL draft, was arrested Thursday night on a misdemeanor charge
of solicitation for prostitution in another legal entanglement for
a top Florida State player.
"It would be inappropriate and premature to comment at this
time," Florida State sports information director Rob Wilson said
Friday.
Coach Bobby Bowden and athletic director David Hart handle
discipline in misdemeanor cases. The Seminoles start practice in
less than a week.
Gibson asked officer Joanna Baldwin how much it would cost for
oral sex, police reported. She asked him, "How much do you have?"
The 21-year-old player responded that he had $10 and had the bill
on the console of his car, the report said.
Gibson had 73 tackles and four interceptions in Florida State's
12-0 national title season in 1999.
