Florida State opens season with Pigskin Classic

 Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Florida State helps open ABC's college football coverage this season. And the defending national champions hope to be around for the network's final game, too -- the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3.

The Seminoles, 12-0 last year, open the season against BYU in the Pigskin Classic on Aug. 26 at Jacksonville, Fla.

ABC will close the 2000 season by again televising the four Bowl Championship Series games, culminating with the BCS' national title game in the Orange Bowl. The network also televises the Rose and Fiesta bowls on Jan. 1, and the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2.

Following its season opener, ABC will televise the Kickoff Classic on Aug. 27, which matches Penn State against Southern California at Giants Stadium.

Among other nationally televised games are Michigan at Ohio State (noon, ET) and Florida at Florida State (8 p.m. ET) on Nov. 18, Colorado at Nebraska (noon EDT) and Texas A&M at Texas (3:30 p.m. ET) on Nov. 24; and Notre Dame at Southern California (3:30 p.m. ET) on Nov. 25.

ABC also features a conference title-game tripleheader on Dec. 2, with championships to be decided in the Southeastern, Big 12 and Mid-American conferences.

Among the regional telecasts are: Alabama at UCLA (Sept. 2); Miami at Washington (Sept. 9), and Michigan at UCLA and Washington at Colorado (both Sept. 16).
